The August 27th Mars you're talking about happened in 2003 though

in 2005 Mars will be almost as close, but on October 31st.

and Mars and Earth get close often enough, but it has been sixty thousand years until it had been as close as it was in 2003.

the next time they'll be that close is in 2287.

but still pretty effin cool. I am excited to see this business.
