So I've been watching Mark Reads Fifty Shades of Grey videos (which...I feel kind of bad about that, because he obviously doesn't like the books, but his freakouts at various lines and events are both entertaining and informative ( Read more... )

That is really interesting! And wow, definitely makes me want to read that fic though I'm not into the fandom at all.

The fic is really great! :) It's a genderswap, always-a-woman AU, where one of the characters from the show (Lestrade) is Georgiana instead of Greg. Since it's focused on the minor characters you might like it even if you don't like the fandom, though there is some stuff that tracks John and Sherlock from the show. It has a bunch of ideas about...hmm, about being a woman in certain situations that just felt true to me, but without being a way I'd ever thought of it before. But also a good romance and a mystery plot towards the end as well. And laugh-out-loud funny in bits, too.

rageprufrock in general is great, have you read anything of hers? Her HP fic that's something like Seven Things That Didn't Happen on Valentine's Day or some long title like that is one that I'll still go back and read now, years after I basically left the fandom.

Even though I'm not there now, it's great to hear that someone on my flist follows Mark Reads.

I enjoyed Mark Reads through the Harry Potter books, the Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings, and a couple of one-shots, like American Gods. He went on to some books I wasn't interested in or hadn't read, so I lost track of what he was doing.

Your observation about the two stories is interesting. The jeans with fancy, expensive underwear speaks about the woman's hidden passion I guess.

I re-read that Seven Things story too. Pru writes better than the 50 Shades author (imho).

I've read a bit of his stuff--I've never, shockingly, read the Harry Potter ones, but I met him briefly at a con a couple of years ago and he was super awesome, so I'll take a peek when things cross my path. In this case, somebody retweeted him and I wandered over to see what he was up to, and ended up watching the videos. :)

I totally agree that Pru writes better than the 50 Shades author. I mean, I almost feel like that's an unfair comparison, because Pru's so great and E.L. James is so terrible :D
