Aaron grunted as he leaned against a destroyed display case next to Jack.

"Yeah, the back doorway is clear, but it's been destroyed." He glanced around, in the dark his eyes picked up any tiny sliver of light. They were almost fluorescent in color, but they didn't glow, so thankfully it didn't make Aaron an easy target. "Quite a few of them still around. There's motion all over the place. Ideas?"

He thought fast. Right now, Aaron's night vision and vampirism were their biggest assets. "I caught a look at the manager's office, it looked defensible and has a full view of the store." Jack talked fast and quiet. An enemy's UMP submachine gun was nearby. He picked it up, checked the magazine. It would do.

"You need to make a break for it, draw their fire. I'll cover you. When they expose themselves, I can pick them off. Once you're inside, you can fire from the window." Aaron's powers would give him a good chance of surviving the run, and his vision should allow him to clear the rest of the store once he was in a good position. Jack's job would be to help him get there.

"Alright." He'd get no argument from Aaron. It was a sound plan, as far as he was concerned. He peeked up over the top of the counter, watching all the motion as the hostiles closed in on their location. "They're closing in. I'm going."

He spotted one of them nearby, and stood up in the shop, hopefully at least giving them a shadow as he shouted and leaped for the nearest threat. It wasn't much of a struggle as he landed on him and wrestled the weapon free. He used it to save his own clips as he took shots at the shadows only briefly, before letting the blaze from his muzzle draw their attention away from Jack as he ran for the manager's office.

And when their attention was drawn and they started shooting, so did Jack. He switched back to his silenced pistol and took aim at the flickering flashes from hostile gunshots. Firing once, twice, three then four times, he then relocated before they could track where the shots were coming from. He'd heard two yells of pain and the fire on Aaron seemed to have died away for the moment, but in the darkness it was hard for Jack to say for sure.

He made his way back to where he'd started, and crouched behind the shelves he'd pushed over while reloading his pistol and scanning for more targets. Beneath the shelves, the stiff forms of two men lay silent and still. Jack did not meet their blank, open eyes, instead helping himself to their ammunition.

Aaron made it into the manager's office, glad for the improved cover as he took a moment and waited for a lull in the fight. Quickly, he popped out to take well-aimed shots in the dark as figures yelped before dropping to the ground. His borrowed weapon quickly ran out of ammunition, and so he pulled out his pistols, and conserved his rounds. Another shot or two, before someone desperately poked one of the semi-automatic weapons over a barrier blindly, and started firing again.

At least their numbers were finally starting to dwindle.

Good, Aaron had made it. And Jack had made a fortunate discovery. Grunting, he pulled something out of one of the dead enemies' coat pocket. A long, red plastic tube. Flares. Light.

"Aaron, cover your eyes!" A moment later the flare was sputtering to life and hurtling through the air. It clattered to a stop near the shooter behind the barrier, illuminating him in wavering red light, throwing crazily shifting shadows on the walls and ceiling of the shop. Jack shot him, then threw another flare. The shop was still covered in shadow, but the enemy was illuminated and Jack had enough light to see his targets by.

Silencer time was over now. Grabbing the SMG, Jack knelt, raised it to his shoulder, and went automatic, seeing two enemies fall from his first bursts. The hostile gunmen were now caught in a crossfire.

The flares were more an irritation, like an excessively sunny day, but the dark store helped dull the effect. At least Jack's warning kept him from wincing when the flares were lit. His eyes adjusting to the new light source, he leaned out of the doorway and added that component of crossfire, their targets now well-lit.

His senses having recovered from the earlier grenade blast, Aaron paused his crossfire long enough to take out someone trying to sneak up between Jack and himself. At this point, he hoped it was turning into a rout for their adversaries. The smell of blood was thick on the air now, and he wanted the whole scene to be over so he could escape to fresh air. It was not to be, as he took out another hostile.

Jack aimed and shot, aimed and shot, decades of training and experience distilled into lethal, automatic seconds. In moments, the shop was all but clear. One of the only remaining Aryan Brotherhood members chose death over surrender, charging at Jack, yelling and shooting just as the last magazine of Jack's machine gun ran out.

Jack quickly drew his sidearms. He leaped into the air, throwing himself sideways and firing his dual USP pistols as a hail of bullets pulverized the merchandise around him into flying, sparkling shards. The last enemy died with Jack's bullet in his heart.

Overhead, doves fluttered for no discernible reason.
