What is your character's pullpoint? What made you pick this canon point? Are there any special challenges that come with it? Do you let other canon timeperiods influence your characterization ( Read more... )

Spidey's current pullpoint is right after Amazing Spider-Man #629, which I picked because it was then the most recent pullpoint that didn't have me dealing with the immediate aftermath of stories I really disliked. If this game didn't have so many canonmates of Spidey's by its very nature, I probably would've picked a much earlier pullpoint -- either shortly before Civil War, or possibly even sometime back in the 80s, since I like both those periods of Spidey's life much better than his current canon. However, Spidey has developed much stronger relationships with ... pretty much every other superhero who isn't Daredevil in the past five years, and I wanted to have that history to draw on with his canonmates ( ... )

Well like... I think some people pick from canon points to specifically AVOID the plot points/character derailment that comes next. Versus, on another one of these posts the Sally Jupiter player talked about how she used the "future" canon a lot to read into how Sally must have been. That is what I meant.

Ooooh, that makes sense.

Hmmm. I haven't really decided one way or another? I mean, a lot of my ambivalence towards the current run comes from really liking the ideas but very often not liking the execution, so on the one hand CnC is the perfect venue to play with those ideas in a different context. On the other hand it feels a bit cheap for no real rational reason. XD

Peter does already have a similar job in CnC than he picked up in canon after my pullpoint, but that's more a matter of convergent evolution than anything else -- he's worked in think tanks before and it's been established since practically his origin that he wants to be a research scientist.

I think RP is a great way to explore canon themes in a non-canon context. I don't think it's cheap!!

But it's interesting that you and Slott sort of went a similar direction independently.

It wasn't anything I had planned, but weirdly enough the City premise and pre-existing imPort infrastructure made it easier to get Peter a job as a scientist than as a photographer ... for starters, he didn't need to buy his own equipment before he had the money to do so!
