So apparently I am far too mannerly to actually say "fuck no" (or even a far more ladylike version of the same) when medical people make suggestions I find deeply problematic. Not that I have any intention of actually doing what was suggested; I just don't see any need to get in lengthy arguments either.

It's a thing. I do it very imperfectly still, but I imagine I will improve with practice. (Could use less opportunities to practice, but I suppose even that can be reframed positively...)

I don't know. I find "fuck no" sometimes shuts people down pretty quick and makes them think when they are surprised that someone would reject their brainwashed and tired suggestions. You are the client paying them; you don't have to be nice when they choose not to be. Ymmv.

Sounds like time to switch doctors or at the very least get a second opinion from someone who will listen to you.

The whole thing sounds quite unpleasant.

In the long run, finding providers in sync with how you see things should reduce the number of problems.
