why would businesses have to lay off workers because its cold?

granted, i dont do business studies but i don't think the great depression, for example, was highly effected by the climate

energy crisis my dearest, when it is cold, more energy has to be used to keep the temperatures up, which means more oil has to be bought, and the price of oil has risen significantly in the past few months, almost three-fold. therefore, the upkeep of buisnesses will significantly increase, and brrrap, they have to go and lay off workers :)
