"We're all gay, aren't we kids?"

so, I'm talking to Lindsey (my friend who lives in atlanta), and I mention how attractive I think Robert Reed (Mike Brady) is, and she says, "Yeah. He's gay, though." well, I knew that, but it got me to thinking. quite often you hear about disappointed women who oodled over some attractive actor (or singer or model) for years, dreaming of the day ( Read more... )

That we (men) "don't care about the relationship part as long as (we) can watch the carpet munchin" is probably as good an answer as any you'll find (or come up with on your own and subsequently have quoted back to you). w00t !

or is it just that it doesn't matter with guys, because they don't care about the relationship part as long as they can watch the carpet munchinWell, yes and no. I don't think it matters that much to guys, but NOT because all we want to do is watch the carpet munchin'. Cut us a little slack, love, not all of us are shallow, self-centered assholes. I think what it comes down to is that women and men have different fantasies. Or at least I'm guessing they do, as I've never talked at length with anyone about their fantasies. So bear with me here, and please correct me if I'm wrong ( ... )

These are all generalizations. grosely_clerx December 1 2003, 10:40:12 UTC
Might also be because guys generally entertain fewer illusions about their actual chances with their fantasy mates. This is probably because of the differences between male and female fantasies. As Bill Maher said about "mutual fantasies" with married couples - no woman has a fantasy where she's standing on a meadow and her beloved Prince approaches on horseback, takes her their wedding bed, then comes on her face. These are all generalizations.

I know you're not all shallow, self-centered assholes, love. in fact, none of my male Lj friends are. but, although much more practical than typical girl fantasies, it's funny that you ended the post with, "Guys' fantasies tend to not get much beyond "Damn, she's hot. I sure wouldn't mind showing her the "O" face."

And one more thing... hellblazer December 1 2003, 13:27:58 UTC
Also, unless I'm very much mistaken, Robert Reed is not only dead, but he's been dead for quite a while.

Robert Reed died in May 1992 at the age of 59. Here's a Mike Reed tidbit: "Was written out of the final episode of the Brady Bunch due to his disapproval of the script in which Greg's hair turns orange as a result of a cheap hair tonic."

ALSO: Reed was married from 1957 to 1959 and had a daughter.

ALSO: He had AIDS at the time of his death.

NOW: I will stop looking up Robert Reed factoids.

But all of this Reed discussion dances carefully about this central fact: it is a rare and strange thing to hear one express physical attraction to goddamn Mike Brady. Freak !!!

the fact that I was very much attracted to disney's animated fox robin hood, and not so attracted to kevin costner's robin hood, disturbs more people.
