part i.
Character name: Rachel Conway
Fandom: Heroes (OC)
Species: Evolved Human
Character powers: Rachel is an evolved human like many of the protagonists in Heroes canon. She possesses the genetic mutation that grants superhuman abilities. Her mutation is inherited; unbeknownst to her since he died when she was young her father possessed the gene and an ability.
She is able to manipulate her shadow. Given a strong light source it can take corporeal form and move things (and people), acting as an extension of her body. It possesses strength approximating that of a strong male adult-in other words, not superhuman but more than what Rachel herself possesses. Her shadow can also be, when manifested, slipped into small spaces or used to briefly block an incoming blow or support her own weight.
Using it takes a lot of effort, akin to strenuous physical exercise. Sustaining it for more than a brief time drains Rachel physically so if she uses it at all, it’s in short bursts. The better defined it is, the more power it has and the easier it is to manifest it-she can pull it up at once in strong direct light that casts a good, solid shadow but she’d have less success in a space with indirect light, and could not call on it at all in a darkened room. She can’t create the shadow, only direct what’s there. It also remains connected to her, so while it could move around a space where she’s standing, and manipulate things within that reach, it can’t do anything like walk out of a room without her or manifest itself somewhere she is not.
part ii.
1.) Is it acceptable for your character to be mind-controlled or persuaded? How susceptible are they to mind control, hypnotism, or suggestion?
Yes, and she'd be very susceptible.
2.) Is it acceptable for your character to have their mind read? Does this include traumatic memories? What is their mind like (disturbing, orderly, joyful, surprisingly empty, etc.)? If the character has psychic walls or preventative measures against psychic interference, please explain.
It is acceptable; she has no walls or other preventative measures and even traumatic memories could be picked up. Her mind is busy--there's always a lot going on inside it, and a lot of it is at odds with the cheerful, competent exterior she presents. For all that her mind is occupied with doing good, with caring for people, with remembering faces, tasks, and events, there's also a lot of hidden fear and self-loathing. She's hard on herself and rather more needy and lonely than she would ever outwardly let on.
3.) Are thoughts mentioned in narration acceptable for a telepath to pick up?
Yes.
4.) What about emotions, in the case of an empath? What sort of general emotional reading would such a character receive from yours?
Yes. General emotional state would be like the saying, "still waters run deep"--the surface would be calm, competent, warm, caring, but beneath that there would be a lot going on and a lot of conflicting emotions.
5.) Are there any aspects of your character's mind, emotions, or memories you would like to be picked up, mentioned, or used in character? Conversely, is there anything that should not be noticed, or at least never mentioned?
Anything mentioned so far is fair game. Knowledge that she possesses a power and even what it is is also acceptable, if your character is able to pick things up at that level. Specific memories that are open to be read are her stepfather's death when she was a teenager (she feels directly responsible, and her ability came into play), feeling like she's always been alone because her father died when she was a small child, her mother's drinking, her family being by turns loving and distant with each other, spending huge amounts of her free time surfing and swimming to get away from the world, and an adulterous affair she had a couple of years ago. If you need specific details or elaboration on anything, get with me, I'll make it happen.
part iii.
1.) Physically speaking, what stands out about your character? Imposing size? Physical scarring? Tattoos?
Rachel has red hair and freckles all over her arms. She smiles a lot and is very animated. She's average height and weight and not at all imposing. It's not evident when she's dressed, but her navel is pierced and there's scarring along her left hip and thigh, and a tiny bit of scarring on her left elbow (the result of a particularly bad, bottom-dragging wipeout when she was a kid).
2.) Is your character immune to any of the following: poisons, chemical agents, telekinetic influence, radiation, or types of illnesses?
No.
3.) Is your character physiologically different from a human in any way? This can include their blood, skin, hair, et cetera being made up of something unusual or simply differing in construction and durability.
Only if your character can detect differences in genetic code--if they can, then yes, she possesses a genetic mutation. Otherwise she's not different.
4.) Are you amenable to having your character be harmed in any way? How far are you comfortable with injury to you character going? Does this include being fed on by vampires, willingly or unwillingly?
I'm fine with most things. If it's your general brawling-with-others type injuries we can just move forward; for serious maimings, things that would require long recovery periods, death, or vampire feedings let's talk first so I can figure out how to handle it.
5.) Is it acceptable for other characters with abilities of shapeshifting or disguise to imitate your character? Does this include ability mimicry?
Yes. Just give me a quick run-down of what they did while impersonating Dean so I'm prepared for any IC consequences. If you need clarification on what Rachel's ability can and cannot do get with me.
part iv.
1.) Can your character's presence or aura be noticed by other characters, and how would it look/feel to them? How would it manifest to a character with no supernatural abilities, if at all?
Rachel's more or less a garden-variety human. If your character would be able to sense the aura of a normal human that's what they'd sense when she was around.
2.) Can your character be affected by magic spells and curses?
Yes.
3.) Can your character be affected by sin and corruption, and be tempted toward expressing their darker urges (of whatever flavor)?
Yes.
4. What sort of sins is the character prone toward, and how might they best be tempted, if you are interested in such an event?
5.) Are you amenable to the character receiving prophetic visions, including as part of a plot?
Yes.
part v.
1.) Is canon-puncturing or fourth-walling acceptable? We encourage people to tread extremely lightly with allowing their character to learn they are fictional.
No.
2. Is threadjacking allowed? Under what circumstances?
I'm okay with threadjacking in open network posts. If you want to join a log give me and any other players involved a heads-up and we'll work it out.
3. Is it acceptable for canonmates that are updated further than yours to inform your character of events yours has not yet experienced?
Yes.
4. Are there triggering or upsetting topics you would like other characters to avoid mentioning to yours for the sake of continued comfort (racist words, homophobia, self-injury, etc.)?
I don't have anything that's an absolute, don't-ever-bring-that-up trigger. If something does start to make me uncomfortable I will speak up; likewise, I will completely respect others' triggers and I want you to speak up if you're not comfortable.
I can probably deal if it's legitimately IC for your character to say certain things or behave certain ways and it's handled well. Dean doesn't have a lot of patience for dickbaggery so the end result may be that he just doesn't engage your character much.
