Mega Man 9

So last year I had made a post about games not being like they used to be. I desired a classic side-scroller with simple gameplay. Although i did want some additions, such as online play or multiplayer functionality. But the gaming gods have decided that a peace offering is due and have delivered unto the world a classic game. Megaman 9. I have ( Read more... )

OMG! Someone who doesn't think this game is 100 out of 10, better than the second coming of Christ, and the best game evar because it "took me 3 hours to get to the first boss, and my fingers hurt so much, it's awesome!"

You point out the graphics... did you know they ADDED a feature to make the screen flicker badly, just like the old games used to do. *rolls eyes*

You know you can turn the flicker off right?

Yeah, I know. The point I was making is the game doesn't flicker naturally, but the added the ability to make it do so if you wanted a more "authentic" 8-bit experience.

It's kinda like saying, hey, we fixed all those bugs the older games used to have, but if you want to play a game with bugs, you can now add them back in! Isn't that great! Maybe, it's just cause I'm not a guy. Maybe that is why I don't get all the hoopla.

Well, I'm very happy with the graphics. This is something that I only thought I could hope and dream for. THIS is Mega-Man, not some rounded weird shaped, thin looking character like the one in 8. I couldn't play the game because I couldn't stand how he looked. I could take Mega Man X (which you know I'm not a fan of) more than I could 8 ( ... )

Well I am glad your happy with it, it seems that everyone that loved mega-man 1 and 2 are in love with this game, so I think the designers accomplished exactly what they wanted to. I am looking at the Wikipedia page for mega man and they have a shot of one of the levels from 1 and it looks sharper than 9. I think perhaps in their quest to look shabby they over shot a bit. Even better... the cover of the box says: "State of the art" "High resolution graphics." It is just unfortunate that they wanted to pander to an audience that existed the year I was born... that's right Mega Man and I are exactly the same age. but that is neither her nor there. I never got to play the originals on an NES. I did try on an emulator once and could not get far at all. to sum up the level started and there was some ladders to go up and i died assending the ladders. I made it to the top once and proptly got shot in the face, it was horrible, if there was a way to die, i found it. I gave up on it because i thought maybe its just this hard on an emulator. ( ... )

The whole thing with the cover art was a throwback to the cover art of the first game. The self praise on the graphics was just something that was done back then and it was just an homage to that. It's not meant to be literal.

The game is hard. I'll give you that. And yes, if they were to throw in a feature, I'm glad they threw in the ability to save. I was never a big fan of password saves from back in the day. They can keep that crap!

Well, I'm glad that you're enjoying it. I only got to play a little of it so far, but I'm loving it. I look forward to getting through those I-want-to-throw-the-controller-through-the-sliding-glass-door moments.
