Comment fic meme #2

Mar 05, 2012 15:28

After the first round of got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

Tell me WHAT IS HAPPENING in the preview for season 2 of Game of Thrones, where Catelyn and Petyr apparently meet again and she is...not too pleased to see him.

PETYR

"You lied to me." The dagger made a creaking sound as she drew it and Petyr took a careful step backwards.
"My dear Cat... it... it is surely a misunderstanding..."
"This did not belong to the Imp. Only an idiot would arm an assassin with his own dagger. Or someone who would want to blame another man. So tell me why, my lord. Why did you make me start this war?"
Her eyes were like stone and he did not find mercy in them.
"It would have started anyway as soon as Robert was dead" Petyr said, his ragged breath betraying his anxiety.
"You did not answer my question."
He hurtled into a table. There was no more place to back off and Cat kept coming.
Soon the dagger touched his neck.
He closed his eyes.
"Cat... Cat, no... I have always been your friend, I love you..."
"Tell me the truth. Did you send that assassin? Did you try to kill my son? Look. Into. My. Eyes ( ... )

BWHAHAHA. I love it. Thank you.

Firstly I love how frightened he is of her (because seriously, in the preview he looks like he's about to pee himself), because the line about how he did not deal well with weapons, relying instead on whispers and intrigue is so true and perfect - and I loved the call back to Brandon Stark and their duel.

My favorite part was this: At first he wanted power to win Cat. But once he felt the taste of power, it became his true love. It sums him up so perfectly - I think his motivation and endgame, whatever it is, has very little to do with Catelyn anymore (though I think he still very much has feelings/an obsession with her), and sticking it to the Starks was just a convenient side effect of whatever he was/is working towards.

Thanks for writing this!

I just began and then somehow felt she has to kill him.

Dammit, I should have used the title "To Kill A Mockingbird". :D

Ahhhh, that would have been clever! XD I am so awful with titles.

I loved that he died, I hate Petyr UGHHHHHH. I get why so many people like him (he's a really interesting and intelligent character and we don't know what his true motivation is/what he's working for) and I find him interesting, at least, but I despise him and will rejoice when/if his demise comes. <3

I love reading about him because he's so cunning and moves the plot forward, but I too wait for his death. Hopefully by Sansa or by Sandor.

I am looking forward to this upcoming scene, and I enjoyed your take on it. I like how Petyr scrambles, offering up a mix of lies and truth, in an attempt to save himself, but ultimately seals his own fate by talking too much. The thoughts of his defeat at Brandon's sword and of Cat's evolution from Tully maiden to Stark she-wolf were really good. It's fitting that Petyr met his demise at Cat's end, and I like his observations that she was "beautiful in her wrath" and a "goddess of vengeance."

Yeah, because Petyr is kinda hopelessly romantic deep down. He's basically Heathcliff meets Loki.

I'm really curious how this scene will be but someone will just walk in and save his sorry arse.
