After the first round of
got_exchange we had a surprisingly successful comment fic meme going for a while (
here's a list of all the fics that were written last time), so I thought it might be fun to do this again. (Like last time, it's posted on the mod account journal because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange community.)

That crazy fool wears the bones of the fingers Stannis chopped off around his neck. Ha! No wonder they get along, they're both bloody mad. It takes a madman to stomach my brother. It is odd, Ned agrees, remembering Robert's words. He understands the logic behind Stannis' judgement, but he cannot imagine any man who would befriend the lord who chopped off his fingers, let alone wear the bones around his neck every day. But they seem comfortable around each other, Robert's surly brother and this smuggler who bought a knighthood with onions. More comfortable than he and Robert are these days, Ned thinks with a sting of regret ( ... )

I always thought that Ned and Stannis could have been epic BFFs if Ned wasn't Robert's best friend. As it is, Stannis would barely even talk to Ned. ANd he IS oddly adorable when he lets Davos take care of him. <3

Yeah, they definitely could have been. I do wonder whether that would have changed much though. I mean, it likely would have changed the whole course of the plot, re: Ned being made Hand. I'm not sure it would have changed Ned, personally, but it might have changed Stannis and the way he views other lords. What do you reckon? Davos taking care of Stannis is how it should be. <3

I'm not sure how it would have changed the plot or anything, but I'm fairly sure it would have been good for Stannis to grow up with a boy his age who likes him and whom he likes. To be the one who has a BFF who's as close to him as a brother should be, rather than to be the guy who always hears, "Ned is more of a brother to me than you are, Stannis."
Then again, Ned and Stannis would be the most BORING friends ever. ;)
I love Davos taking care of Stannis. I don't know if you've seen the fill roflskate wrote for me, but it's beautiful and it also has Davos being there for Stannis.

Yeah, that's true. Stannis having someone who cared for him, growing up, would have made all the difference.
But, yeah, god, what would they ever do? It would be massively dull.
I saw that it fill was but I haven't got around to reading it yet. I'll definitely give it a go though. Stannis and Davos are so good for each other.

Main reason I ship them so hard. Sometimes I realise how odd it is that these two are so healthy and functional and good for each other, considering the whole lord-bannerman-relationship and the fact that one of them chopped off the other's fingers. ;)

Yeah, Stannis/Davos defies all reason in being that effing functional whilst existing on such a messed up premise. D'aww.

I love pairings that should be messed up, but aren't. I mean, c'mon, Stannis is also old enough to be Jon's or Sansa's father, and he has fucked up power dynamics with them as well. ^^

That's true! But, somehow, it works. I think because Stannis is Stannis & he's honourable and also because both Jon and, actually, Sansa do have some power in the relationship, too, one way or another.

I generally don't think that unbalanced power dynamics are necessarily unhealthy or unhappy, so it doesn't bother me all that much. Also, Stannis has very vulnerable sides despite the power he has over other people, and the people he loves will sooner or later find out about those vulnerabilities. Which restores a bit of balance.

But even Ned notices the UST. :D

EVERYONE notices the UST. All of Westeros ships Stannis/Davos, except Selyse.
