Here we go for the post-exchange comment fic meme. (Posted on the mod account as usual because I don't want to enable anonymous comments on the exchange comm.)
A couple of rules:
- please include the pairing/character (and maybe a short prompt/kink) in the comment title - both for prompts and for fills.
- there are both show and book fans in this

(Because Ned/Catelyn and Stannis/Sansa parallels make me happy. As long as nobody dies, of course.)

I can't seem to write smutty Stannis/Sansa, but I might be able to pull off some degree of romantic, wistful Stannis/Sansa.... Hooray for having something to distract me with at work!

this is my first go at Stannis, so apologies if it doesn’t come across well… constructive criticism is always welcome, I’m trying to get better at this :D (also, linndechir you are like my Stannis/Sansa hero, and I feel like some ridiculous starstruck fan responding to your prompt. squee!)
Red - I Feel My Soul on Fire
Lord Snow had extolled his sister’s beauty and temperament, but he had dismissed it as foolish waffle, adjectives and adverbs and similes strung together like cheap glass beads from Flea Bottom masquerading as pearls. Not that the Stark youth was one to prattle on unnecessarily - he had proven himself to be rather sincere and taciturn, a good judge of character - but the degree to which he praised the girl seemed excessive and, really, what woman could be so beautiful and still so modest, so accomplished and yet so young?
But in the end it was either Stark or Tyrrell, both widowed more than once and somehow still maids (which, in itself, was altogether too coincidental for his liking, but he had no desire to start another ( ... )

Her lips are full and rosy, and for a moment he sees a ghost of a smile at the corner of her lips, but it is a mouth that has forgotten to smile, a mouth that closely guards its laughter. A mouth, he thinks, not unlike his own, one all too familiar with disappointment and death.
Her eyes are a deep blue, darker than his must be, like the waters off of Storm’s End when the skies grow dark and the winds howl and the waves begin to froth and churn, swallowing ships and lives and childhood in one tremendous crash. A man could drown in her eyes, he thinks suddenly, but no, that’s a ridiculous thing to say - they’re just eyes, after all.
But gods, her hair, her hair is bewitching as it glitters in the light, like some otherworldly star, not fire at all but the sun, and he thinks that it must be warm to the touch, like sand on a sun-soaked beach, or blades of grass on a late spring day. And he harkens back to bright days spent exploring the tidal pools with Robert, basking in the golden-red rays.
And in that moment he knows he has ( ... )

it's totally true - and they're both so damaged and vulnerable that they could be so, so perfect together. She would bring out the romantic in him (well, as much as possible, at least) and he would bring out her inner strength and honesty. Between the two of them, they could definitely win the game.

He expects her to look like her brother, sad grey eyes framed by dark hair, but no, she burns like fire, and he turns his head aside instantly, his heart tightening. For he has worshipped fire before, has cast himself deep into its flickering tongues, only to emerge blackened and scarred. He has no love for fire.
That part has to be my favourite. Loving this so so so so so much.

I love, love, love how perfectly Sansa works with fire imagery, both physically and just her character. I think it's interesting that all of the men she surrounds herself with are in some way tainted or affected by fire - Sandor and Loras with their burns, Tyrion with the Battle of Blackwater, etc.
She's no Dany, she doesn't actually walk through (and survive) flames, but she survives a much more traumatic experience (imo) and emerges stronger. To me, she really epitomizes the whole 'song of ice and fire.' le sigh.

AAAWWW very well done....and your Stannis is a well written one ;)

They're quickly becoming my favorite pairing and I'm not entirely sure why! Maybe the potential for awkward, clumsy attempts at romance? There's something very realistic about the two of them, I can actually see them learning to love one another.

Thank you so, so much for filling this. :D

YAYY I'm so happy you liked!!!!! The world needs much more Stannis/Sansa, so I'm happy to contribute.
yeah I'm not really a Melisandre fan (at least, not when she's with Stannis... I'm hoping that she'll have her uses post-ADWD, but otherwise, just meh...) but you can't discount the huge influence she has on Stannis' sanity. I feel like he'd struggle more than a little with his emotions (Stannis?! emotions?!?! whaaaat!?!) if he found himself marrying another hot redhead.
I'd love to know more about young Stannis - was he idealistic and naive and chivalric? I feel like he and Sansa have such similar character arcs, but he (as a man) can hide his inner pain with brutal honesty while she has to hide behind courtesies and dishonesty. JUST KISS AND MAKE IT BETTER YOU TWO. ugh.

Classic Stannis ;). I love the image of Stannis brushing Sansa's hair, for that's incredibly sweet. And I like your inclusion of Jon on Stannis' Kingsguard, as I really liked their interaction in ADWD.
Thank you for writing this!

There can never be enough Stannis + Sansa + Jon (+Davos) fics. Those four characters were just meant to interact together.
