Just picked up my passport from the migration specialists, complete with new, shiny "permanent residency" visa. The Australian government seems to think I'm worth keeping. :-P From what I understand, I can stay here as long as I like now, and can possibly change jobs if the desire ever strikes me

I'm not sure what you're being paid and if you're on a US pay scale it may not be worth it but in your position I'd change jobs to something that a) was on call less and b) made you want to hit people less.

Actually, they've gotten enough people doing on call now that I'll only have to do it once or twice a year now. :-) I haven't had to do it in months now, and, amusingly enough, the only Yank in the IT group is the one they scheduled to be on-call for the week that includes Thanksgiving. :-P I wonder if that was accidental...
