How teh fux do you flatly and evenly sew two pieces of fabric together on a concave curve - right sides together before turning them inside out - without producing teh fucktardation?
I need a baby seal. S/he can keep me company at work.
If it's not a seam you're used to sewing, here's my recommended method: 1) place pins at the top, middle, and bottom of the curve, making sure that you match up any edges, markings, etc. 2) curve the fabric so that the larger length of the two pieces of fabric (there generally is one when you sew curves of this sort) stretches out evenly over the shorter piece. 3) pin that sucker! 4) gently stretch the fabric as you sew, so that it doesn't bunch on either side. 5) iron to death
I should check and see if the Japanese gift store has them back in stock yet - I haven't seen any there for months and months. (wah)
I tried to re-sew one side last night, and it actually turned out pretty decently. I think my problem was with the pinning and the flattening, since it's darted weirdly and refuses to actually lay flat. Basically I ended up pinning the hell out of it, but as a result it's not pulling funny any more (yay!) If ironing isn't enough, I might sew over the edges just to guarantee that the damn thing lays flat, but yey!
And then we can sew cute matching outfits for them! And I can mail mine up to you for a playdate, and you can mail yours down to me for a playdate, and Greg will hang his head and wonder what happened to his wonderfully mature wife.
So at Anime Boston there was actually a vendor who had BABY SEAL MERCH. I was VARRY GOOD and didn't actually buy anything because I couldn't justify it, but they did have these Baby Seal mugs that I would actually use for coffee at work but they'd run out of. So I'm hoping they'll have some at Ota (yay!). Maybe they'll have some baaabbbyyy seals there too. >XP
Blah, speaking of Otakon, wtf with the art show submission prices? A $15 submission price AND they take 10% of your earnings? Eff??? I'd wanted to try and sell another of those Avatar posters and maybe one or two other things, but now I don't even know if that's worth it at all. Huh.

2) make sure your tension is right - maybe adjust it even if it's working for flat seams
3) iron that sucker
