Greetings. I am Edward Fairfax Rochester. I shall be staying within the mansion until further notice.

Please be advised that I have assigned the attic as a forbidden territory. If you know what is good for you, you will stay entirely away.

Good evening, Mr. Rochester, I am Mrs. Linton. It is a welcome sight to see another Englishman! I just do not know how to talk to foreigners. What is wrong with the attic? Is it rats? It's rats, isn't it. I've been saying we need a few hounds in this old place. They would make short end of all the rats. You haven't brought any servants, have you? The whole house is in desperate need of a cleaning and airing. And I really do not know what we shall do about dinner... I've been through the kitchen, and those cobwebs.... *shudder*

My Dear Mrs. Linton,

I find it quite calming to be in the presence of fellow countrymen, or in this case, women. However, I have no qualms in conversing with foriengers for I have had extensive schooling in languages. I have not brought any servants with me, except my dear Grace Poole. She does not partake in any sort of cleaning or mending. Please do not bother her, as she will not do what you ask. As for the rats, I fear you are very correct. There are several, perhaps hundreds, of deadly rats in the attic-- most in posession very large and venomous teeth! I daresay, my dear Mrs. Linton, that you must stay away. Do not fear for me, for I have no apprehension for such beasts.

Mr. Rochester.
