On Vox: Obama

Ahead of the debates, I want to ask you all a question.

Should the association that Obama has with others matter?  Rev. Wright's opinions/delivery bother the heck out of me.  The fact that Obama seems to have closely associated with this terrorist also irks me.  Not enough to NOT consider voting for him, but should it?  Is it an important issue to ( Read more... )

Thank you Indi, that was a wonderful explanation. To me, I just ignore most of this type of stuff in the media, because I can understand becoming associated with people who don't share your same thoughts and views. I don't believe that Obama thinks exactly like those he is associated with.

I am totally voting Obama this year. I have opened my eyes so much these last 4 years and am ashamed of how I voted 4 years ago. I wasn't being true to myself and allowed others to influence me. Not anymore. I am even very close to changing my party from "No party affiliation" to "Democrate" because if I really think about it, I have always been more of a democrate than a republican all my life.

Happy I could help. I think it's important that, if allegations like this get raised, people actually take the time to find out what's really going on. Because otherwise, we wind up with a bunch of creeps shouting racial epithets, like at those Palin rallies.

And you know, I'm seeing SO MANY PEOPLE saying the same thing as you - that they're voting Dem this year, that they can't believe the party they'd allied with has turned into this. It looks like America is going to shift leftwards again, due to the evangelical rabid-right contingent in the GOP. Stranger things have happened, yeah, but this I didn't expect.

I'll be voting for Obama too. I think that I was making the mistake of getting my opinion shaped by the networks, and failed to consider the other side of the stories that are being spun on the air.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

ayers may have been a radical way back in the day but he won a chicago citizen of the year reward for his role in education reform here and he worked with the mayor. bobby rush was a black panther and a lot of people like this, caught up in those battles from the sixties defined themselves at a young age at a time of crazy social upheaval. the weather underground bombed property and thought their high minded principles was justification enough to disregard the likely outcome -- that they could kill someone -- until it literally blew up in their faces ( ... )

That is so true, it's never as easy to believe when the news spin this same shit over and over. That's my problem. With the kids, I have no time to research the accusations at length. I just turn on CNN and listen to the headlines. Sadly, most Americans are doing the same thing I am.

After last night's debate, I am convinced that Obama is the best choice for our future.

An I love your point about them serving "their" communities, in their own way. It's true. And it was very cinical of me to not consider redemption as an option. People make mistakes, but they can also do all they can to make amends. How true that is. ;)

Thanks for your opinion!

I loved the link. I knew of it, but I think I'm making the mistake of falling into the wiles of network news. They kept downplaying it, and therefore I've completely forgotten about it! Thank you!

After watching this last debate, I'll be voting for Obama. The Change we will all benefit from, I'm sure. Thanks for your opinion!

I don't want to live in a world where people judge me for who I am "associated" with. I'd be in big trouble!

I'd rather be judged by who my family is

I'm voting for McCain. I don't trust Obama in the least. They're both politicians and human though, so I'm just going to look at the issues.
