my grandmother is in the kitchen. i can hear her slippers swishing against the floor, as she sings nawhas to herself softly, tapping her chest, as if to calm her beating heart

When everything else is failing or gone .. hearing is the LAST thing a person loses. I take care of hospice patients and yes they can hear everything you are saying until the moment they are gone. They also do wait for everybody to see them or do what they need to do before they pass. One man always said he did not want to die alone and one day I was in his room checking on him and held his hand and he took his last breath and died. Very sad.

I'm sorry for your loss but he's in jannah now.
