Argh! Stupid fecking Great Western Trains no longer accept mobility scooters onto their trains, so how the feck am I supposed to get to London on Saturday? Apparently it is for safety reasons - what saftey reasons exactly? It's dimensions are small enough, every other operator in the country accepts it, so what's wrong with them ( Read more... )

Well, if I had a proper expensive wheelchair, I'd be ok.

But I'm not ill enough to qualify for an electric wheelchair, and wouldn't need it a lot of the time. But on the other hand, I'm not strong enough for a self-propelling wheelchair (y'know, the whole fatigue thing...). So I have a little mobility scooter that is half-way to a electric wheelchair.

So I'm sure they would argue they aren't discriminating at all, because I could come in a manual wheelchair or some other crap.

They are CUN'TS AND I HOPE THEY SUFFER.

today is shit shit shit and I'm fecking fed up

I don't know who owns them. Do you really think I can cause them difficulties (it's a bit late as I need to travel Saturday for a college trip)

Well, apparently so, because they've bloody well done it. Something about safety concerns - I can only take it on if I have taken it to bits before hand, which defeats the purpose of bloody having the thing doesn't it? If I were capable of pulling it apart, carrying it on, and putting it back together at the other end, I wouldn't need it...

Thames Trains do not appear to be running a service between Oxford and London, because all I can find is sodding Great Western

Have you tried Vrigin? You may have to do Oxford->Reading, Reading->Paddington, but they're usually very helpful and PC. I think Feorag's idea of going to the DRC is a great one. FGW are terrible to do that to you. They clearly don't understand that you have needs that can't be met with their close-minded constraints.

Thank you for all the advice

Right, sent an email to FGW. Tried to send an enquiry form to DRC, but the website kept crashing on the final page. We shall see.

In the meantime, I've booked the stupid evil Oxford Tube for Saturday, which sucks monkey balls, but it's the only way.

I like Virgin trains, but changes are nightmarish with wheels and the journey will end up long. If your train is a couple of minutes late you can be left waiting for hours, or even stranded
