I'm commenting to let you know that I friended you. I saw some folk making light fun of some of your writing, so I read your LJ.
I saw a lot of passion, thought and energy here. A dedication you don't see in the goth community so much these days. Sure, you have to work on some things [like your use of the word "thy"] but y'know, I gotta applaude you for carrying on in an area that obviously isn't much of an appropriate place for a dark gentleman.
I live up in Canada where I promote, DJ, host events and do a lot of other stuff for the community. We've been examining the gothic subculture to find events, to fight the apathy, to build something elegant, beautiful and glamourous.
A masquerade ball is a big undertaking, but can also be a huge success. People like masks and they like dressing up. Think of the masked ball scene in "Labyrinth", the Bowie movie. You'll need venue, decorations, bar, music... but again, it can be well worth it.
Yes, people sometimes offer feedback in a manner that degrades themselves. That class is not dependant upon status seems to be frequently forgotten - and criticisms occur instead of offerings of useful feedback. Some use snappish remarks instead of using humour in a lighthearted and hurt-less manner. This is a shame but people can grow to see past their former approach. Sometimes, One might have meant well, but experienced the foot-in-mouth syndrome and gotten jumped upon by the misinterpeting masses. I hope I am not wrong in giving such people the benefit of the doubt, as being wrong would be disappointing
