Jean Lafitte's Absinthe House (the first and still oldest in the U.S.) and of course, a stroll around the Garden district. Don't go to any of the cemeteries alone or after 4pm.

According to Neil Gaiman, there is a fantastic resturant in the French Quarter called The Green Goddess. If you go there and mention Gaiman's special password "the Mezze of Destruction" to your server something good and special will happen for you to eat or drink. :D

If you're drinking age, Pravda! is an atypical French Quarter bar on lower Decatur Street, largely unknown to tourists. The bar attracts young, hip locals, and is a great place to stop for an absinthe, complete with fountain service. If you like sugar in your absinthe, tell them NOT to light the sugar cube.
