Sometimes I get this sickening feeling in my stomach... what happened to this world? What happened to our society? Instead of improving situations and evolving life, we are rapidly going back in time and becoming weaker as individuals instead of improving things. Last night as I was in sitting in the passenger seat of a friends car while driving ( Read more... )

I've given food to the homeless in Philly and I comfort dying people and their families every time I go to work.
It's Society that wants to portray USA as strong with no weaknesses - We'll donate a bunch of things to other countries but neglect our own - it's been going on forever.
At least people cared about Katrina - In fact I'm a secret santa for a little girl who was a victim. So people do -DO things.. it also goes un noticed too ;)
i do what little i can - it's not much but it's worth it to the people i help.

I dont want to sound cynical, but that homeless man most likely did not care about himself anymore than those ignoring him. When I was younger I was homeless... I mean really homeless- not like a "summer squatter", lol. The majority of the grown adult homeless I met were there by choice or addicted to drugs. They had no real sob stories... just crack in their system. If you took in someone like that they would most likely rob you then go back out on the street for more drugs. The people who dont want to be homeless dont stay on the streets very long... like me.

Funny you say this because when my parents threatened to kick me out a few months ago, and I called a ton of housing authorities in the state of New York from Long Island and nyc all the way up to Buffalo about applying for section 8, they all told me the same thing; that section 8 is closed in the State of New York, and that they haven't been giving out or accepting section 8 applications for a number of years because they have no funding. If I had actually gotten kicked out I would have been fucked as I can't come up with $1000 per month or more to rent my own place. On top of that a judge in New York recently ruled that homeless shelters don't have to take people in who have family in the area, regardless of weather or not their families are actually willing to house them ( ... )
