I get myself roped into things sometimes...

Jun 02, 2011 21:03

I love, love stargateland. I do.

Even if when I feel like I have to get all the points! This week was crazy because it's Theme Week, and every day the mods posted dozens and dozens of prompts for all shows, and we had to make whatever with them (each type of work giving a number of points, also with bonus points for our second Team (go sgl_allies!)

I waited to post in my LJ all at once so this first post is my writing dump (drabbles and ficlets) and the next will be the graphic dump. Of course I just couldn't resist making them exactly 100, 200 or 400 words long. Sometimes I worry myself. And god, the tags. the tags. *facepalms*

Please don't expect great quality ;)

day one (8 x 100 words drabbles, 1 at 200 words = 50 points)

06- SG1, Oma Desala, guardian

Absolutely no one used to question the rules.

When you grew up an Ancient, they were drilled early on, repeated over and over again. Being ascended gave you infinite knowledge, but in turn it came with obligations and responsibilities that were set in stone or you were kicked out. It was simple and it made Oma's job as a guardian easier.

Anubis fooled her, defied the rules and was cast down, bringing punishment on her. But then Daniel Jackson had to come along and ask and prod, over and over again, until Oma herself began to question and doubt.

08- SG1, Teal'c & Jonas, a trip to the commercial center

The wonders of Earth never ceased to amaze Jonas. It's the excess in everything that had him stare in shock.

"These commercial centers," explained Teal'c. "Are much like a closed market, where each store has a specialty. What is it you wanted, again, Jonas Quinn?"

"A shirt? I just want a shirt," Jonas said, eyes jumping from a shoe store to a jewelers and then looking up, where he could make up at least 3 other levels.

"Come this way, then," Teal'c said, moving confidently through the crowd and Jonas hurried to follow, afraid to lose him.

01- SGA, John/Rodney, Movie Night

John had always loved watching movies as a mean to escape the real world. When he sensed that Rodney needed to get away from work too or he's lose his mind, John invited him along, where he even share his popcorn. He had absolutely no agenda in doing so, but if Rodney ended up sitting a little closer for scary movies, well John wasn't about to protest. Careful 'accidental' touching became a game, each movie night finding them bolder until hands ended up in pants and laptops lay forgotten on the floor, replaced by another mean of escape.

10- SGA, Rodney McKay, move the mountain

Of course the avalanche had cut him, and no one else, from everyone else. That was his life, and his luck in general, so he was not even surprised. Thank god for radios, though, because if Rodney hadn't been able to hear that everyone was safe and sound on the other side, even if a bit banged up, he would have promptly lost it. One of his many problem was now to move the boulders out of the way to reach his friends. He'd do it, even if he had to move the whole mountain rock by rock.

20- SGA, Ronon Dex, Who took my blaster

Ronon slowly searched for his gun under the pillow, a part of his wake up ritual for years now, and he frowned when he couldn't find it. Minutes later his room was a wreck, furniture askew and personal belongings everywhere but there was still no sign of his gun.

"Who took my blaster?" he bellowed in the lab - had to be a scientist to open his locked door - and it was satisfying to see so many people cowering.

"Don't scare the minions," Rodney snapped, rolling his eyes. He had... two blasters? "Here. Happy birthday, big guy."

26- SGA, Ronon Dex & Rodney McKay, unexpected camping trip

Ronon sighed as he heard Rodney coming back, making so much noise he was sure to scare away what could have been dinner in a radius of half a mile, minimum.

"Of course not, no chance of that. Heck, a jumper has padded benches, it would have been so much better than a shelter made of goddamn evergreen."

"It will smell better, bring you sweet dreams," Ronon couldn't help saying, knowing it would make Rodney flail even more. Say what you want, an irate McKay was good entertainment.

"Oh, thank you. How could I have overlooked that?" Rodney said sweetly. "I don't care how it smells, okay?" he then exploded, voice raising. "I just want to be back on Atlantis and to sleep in my bed, is that too much to ask?"

Neither of them had anticipated this unexpected camping trip. It was supposed to be a quick visit to the outpost, but then they had a warning that it wasn't safe to go through the gate until morning and that they had to stay put.

"Come on. Let's start a fire," Ronon said, taking pity. He had some marshmallow, it would make Rodney feel better.

18- SGU, Everett Young / Nicolas Rush, a love/hate relationship

Most days, Everett wishes that he'd never met the one and only Doctor Nicolas Rush. The man gets under his skin like no one ever did, to the point that it makes him want to punch Rush square in the face and hope it hurts. Badly. He really had wished for him to die on that planet.

But then again, the smug bastard is brilliant, there's no denying it. And since competency has always pushed his buttons, more and more Everett feels himself attracted to the guy, too. Frankly, it's a direct highway to madness.

08- SGU, Eli Wallace&Ronald Greer, alien deer

"I can't believe... I can't do this!" Eli exclaimed, lowering this gun.

The deer's ears twitched and it bounced away.

"Man!" Greer whined. "You did it, again. I thought you said that you wanted to lean this, that you would shoot this time."

Eli sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "I know, I know! I said it, and I do think it's important that I help with bringing food and everything. But come on... it looked just like Bambi!"

Greer pointed to camp. "Go back, I've got this. Let me deal with lunch."

20- SGU, Eli Wallace, Failure to communicate

Eli had been afraid that it would be creepy, being the last person awake on Destiny. Seeing everyone frozen in their pods sure was weird, but Eli was oddly calm about it all. He needed to join them soon, but apart from the underlying sense of urgency it was surprisingly soothing. No one to look over his shoulder, no mind trick from Rush, no need to pretend he was holding it all together. The only thing he wished for was to talk to Ginn one last time, but she was unfortunately still locked in quarantine with Rush's psycho girlfriend.

day two (9 x 100 words drabbles and 1 x 200 words) = 50 points)

11- SG1, SG1 team, gone fishing

Sam double checks the contact details with Walter then hurries to the lockers to grab her bag. She catches up with Daniel and Teal’c in the briefing room.

“Everything all set?” Sam asks and has to grin when she notices Teal’c has one of Daniel’s old floppy hat on.

“All set for what?” Jack asks as he strolls in the room. “You guys have been acting shifty lately. I notice those things: it generally doesn’t mean anything good for my blood pressure.”

“In fact, we were thinking about said blood pressure when we planned this,” Daniel said, giving Jack the envelope.

Jack’s eyebrow raise as he reads the brochure promising the best salmon fishing in the state.

“Oh!” Jack looks surprised. “For real?”

It’s like he has difficulty believing that people would want to do something nice for him.

“We are going as well,” Teal’c said.

“Four whole days of mosquitoes and sunburn,” adds Daniel.

Jack truly smiles at that and yes, this was a good idea. The man hasn’t had it easy since he made general and took the lead of the SGC.

“Happy birthday, Sir,” Sam says as she hangs the big ‘Gone Fishing!’ sign on Jack’s door.

13- SG1, Replicarter & or / Sam Carter, Darkness within

Sam would not lie to herself or to anyone who asked: it had been fascinating to work with the Replicator made in her image. A little bit freaky, too, but being able to share ideas with someone that could give back just as fast, in just the right way… it had been exhilarating.

She had wanted to believed that RepliCarter - Jack first used the name as a joke, but it stuck - was intrinsically good, but the sudden betrayal hadn’t came completely from left field either. Sam fought it every day, but she knew she had the potential for darkness, too.

45- SG1, Teal'c & Samantha Carter renovating

When Sam had decided to finally renovate her basement, there had been absolutely no hesitation on who she’d ask for help.

“Could you put this...” she started but Teal’c had already hoisted the gypsum wallboard up and was holding it against the ceiling studs as if it weighted nothing.

Sam hurried to drill in a couple of screws even if she knew Teal’c could stay like that for a while. So yes, it had been a no brainer.

“Thank you,” she said with feeling.

With a smile and a nod Teal’c was repeating the movement with another wallboard. Just awesome.

05- SGA, John Sheppard, fifteen minutes of fame

Rodney was stirring some cream in his coffee when he noticed there was a commotion at the cash register. A machine was beeping, the girl behind the counter was making frankly terrifying high pitched sounds and John looked shell shocked, looking at a piece of paper in his hand with his jaw dropped open.

Worried, Rodney rushed over. “What’s going on?”

John looked up, blinked and there was nothing good going on when he made crazy eyes like this. Rodney was getting anxious.

“I just won 45 million dollars,” John said before starting to laugh hysterically.

Rodney dropped his coffee.

12- SGA, John Sheppard / Rodney McKay, We suffer mornings most of all.

After two or three aborted tentatives, Rodney finally managed to sit up in the bed with a heavy groan (and not of the fun kind).

"Ow!" he said. "Ow, ow, ow."

John winced and rubbed at Rodney's lower back a little in apology. Every time they slept in his quarters instead of Rodney's, he woke up with a sore back.

"Yeah, right there," Rodney said when John pressed near his spine.

After a minute he got up and John decided to follow suit, but swore when his left knee almost gave out from under him.

Getting old sucked.

29- SGA, John, horse with no name

If there's one thing that John missed from his father's estate when he left for college, it was the horses. He'd spend hours in the stables, grooming them and he took his favorites out to gallop and jump whenever he could get away with it. In one of the failed attempts to buy John's affection, his father had told him he could name the next foal from their prize winning mare. It had backfired when John had said wished to call him 'No Name', in the honor of the band America, just to piss him off.

39- SGA, Atlantis & or / John Sheppard, Discovery.

The days John ran with Ronon, they usually took one of four circuits, depending on how much crushing John thought his ego could withstand. But when he ran alone, John never took the same path.

He let the hum of Atlantis guide him along the piers and the catwalks, into glittering spires to run up stairs or through corridors that were never exactly the same. The city called to him, always, and on those mornings he answered her siren call, running until his legs felt like jello. Then, like magic, a transporter appeared to bring him back. Until next time.

09- SGU, Everett Young, It's a wonderful lie

Everett wasn't stupid and knew that TJ played the tapes from Novus over and over again, not so secretly longing for the family that once was or could have been. It broke his heart because that ship had sailed, their real daughter - the one from their time line - was gone and he was hurting, too, even if he tried for it not to show too much. One night he sat down and watched the tapes himself, the early years before TJ got sick, and let himself be swept away for a couple of hours in that wonderful lie.

12- SGU, Everett Young (in Daniel Jackson's body)/Jack O'Neill, a whirlwind of emotions

Jack had tried to prepare for it, but it still hit him like a tons of bricks when Everett showed up in his office wearing Daniel's body.

"How are you, Everett?"

He was swept in a bear hug and Everett whispered how he'd missed him. Jack hugged back but flinched when Everett kissed softly near his ear, had to step back. He'd hugged Daniel plenty of times, but this was different, this was wrong. He'd thought that crush dead and buried, but not so much and it wasn't fair to Everett or Daniel. Or himself.

29- SGU, Ginn, Needle in a haystack

Ginn had seen images of Earth and the huge cities that dotted its surface through the formations given by the Lucian Alliance. Her favorite had always been New York, with the park in the middle and the shiny rivers all around the island.

Being incorporeal in Destiny's database was a bit like being lost in New York with no map. She'd wander upon a wealth of precious information and then end up in dangerous dark corner. It was huge and Ginn was lost, but she'd search for the way out relentlessly as long as she needed to.

day four (400 words of fic = 20 points)

11- SGA, John/Rodney, John brings Rodney back a flower from the Athosian settlement

It would be time to go, soon, so John walked back the Athosian settlement. He avoided a near collision with a bunch of kids chasing a black and white soccer ball, of all things, and he was about to start looking for Teyla when she found him first.

“John!” She was smiling wide, as she always was after spending time with her people. He should fly her over more often. “You said you wanted to go back at sun down?”

“Yeah, are you ready?”

She nodded graciously and they walked towards the jumper, John waving his goodbyes as they went.

“Azimafles are beautiful,” Teyla said.

John wondered for an instant what she was talking about before he looked down at the flower he was still holding, rolling the stem between index and thumb. He almost blushed; he had no idea why he had even picked up the thing earlier, apart that it was a beautiful bright orange and that the center was blue just like Rodney’s eyes. He hadn’t meant to bring it back. The gallant thing to do would be to offer it to Teyla, but she was talking again.

“In the Athosian tradition, we offer Azimafles to the person who captured our heart and therefore make our intention known.”

“That’s nice,” John said, happy to have avoided a faux pas by giving it to Teyla. “It’s very pretty.”

He was a bit afraid to throw the flower away, now, since John didn’t want to offend his friend. He had to put it down to fly the jumper, but he was still carrying the Azimafle once back in Atlantis where he passed by the lab to see if Rodney was still there. The place was deserted, though, which was a little unusual until John remembered there was a Lord of the Rings marathon in the rec room. John checked his watch and figured he had time to go get some popcorn in his room and still be there before The Two Towers started.

After a moment of hesitation - and with his heart thumping in his chest at the idea of being caught - John found an empty test tube, filled it with water and placed the flower at Rodney’s lab bench. Rodney wouldn’t know from who it was and the significance of this particular flower, but John did and for now it was the only move he dared to make.
