Into the Wild Unknown [locked to mizunosenshi ]

If there was one activity Sousuke took more seriously than most, it was wilderness survival.  From a young age he'd been trained in how to persevere in almost any circumstances, regardless of climate or supplies.  Given that the weather was favorable - a sunny spring day, to be exact - and that he was able to bring any equipment he felt would be ( Read more... )

Ami had complete faith in Sousuke's wilderness survival skills, though she was sure she had failed to convince him that he wouldn't need all of his usual equipment. It was a designated camping area, only a couple miles from a well populated town should they have any problems. She'd even brought along her computer, for long distance communications should it be needed. All she planned for was a simple camping trip and a nice little fire. Her backpack was much smaller, containing clothes and some food she'd brought along. And a few books.

As they neared the flat and already cleared campsite, she reached up and wiped a bead of sweat from her forehead. It was a good walk getting there! "I have everything I need," she said with a smile and a nod. "If we forgot something, between the two of us I'm sure we can work it out. This looks like a good spot."

Sousuke studied their surroundings for a moment. This was a good spot, she said? "The terrain is acceptable," he conceded, "though since you said this location was prepared for that specific purpose, that isn't surprising." Mind you, he couldn't help but consider that if they were attacked in the middle of the night this clearing offered no cover - they would have to retreat back behind the trees, which would take a few seconds they might not have--

He scowled, visibly shaking his head. Ami assured him that this trip would not involve live combat. He had to trust her... well, to an extent.

"I'll begin making the necessary preparations." With that he set the massive backpack down, sifting through a specific pouch to withdraw... trip wire, claymores, C4, and a few stun grenades. "With these, establishing a defensive perimeter is simple."

It was a perfect spot, complete with stones already laid out for a fire pit. It would just need a little straightening up, collection of branches for a fire, and... nothing that exploded. Ami shook her head and placed a hand over his wrist. Why did be bring so much? Nevermind, she didn't want to know.

"You can establish a perimeter by collecting twigs and small branches for a fire," she said, trying to guide his hand out of the pouch. "But leave a few around the outskirts of the clearing, so if something tries to infiltrate the camp, they'll break the twig and alert us."

... That was one of the weakest defenses he'd ever heard of. There was no guarantee that the enemy would step on the twigs, and any trained assassin would know to avoid stepping on them... but he had chosen to trust Ami, and it's with visible hesitance that he places the traps back in his bag.

"Roger. I should be finished in less than five minutes." he stated, leaving the backpack where it was as he wandered to the edge of the campsite to begin his search. Fortunately, having done this before, he knows exactly what sort of branches to collect for their fire. He took a moment to turn back towards Ami, raising his voice just enough so she could hear him over the distance.

"Did you bring food, or are we procuring our meal on-site?"
