Perhaps your family members are well-meaning but all cut from the same cloth - they may think you do exactly the things they do. Or they're solipsistic and need a talking-to.
Animal warmth is the best. The pink boy no longer likes to climb up on my high bed, so I find him when he falls asleep on the couch downstairs. I do have a number of stuffed bears, and they are very nice bedfellows.
It's weird. They DO know that I paint, make pottery, work with River, work on the house, etc. but very rarely do they ever ask me about any of those things. They almost never say "what have you been doing on the house?" or "what is it that you are doing with River?" Then when I show them something I did, they are kind of like "Oh wow, you did this

OK, those people who say you're weird are just RUDE. Honestly, I think you're delightful-- you are brave, very kind, responsible in so many ways, and really interesting. You are constantly exposing yourself to new things-- new movies, new building adventures, new horsemanship techniques, not to mention your reading. Like this factoid about Darwin-- I often wonder where you learned such things

Thank you for this. What you say about lording over others is correct, I go out of my way to engage people and get them to talk about themselves, and to learn about them, not to impose myself on them. I suppose I would like reciprocity
