I second pretty much this entire comment. I went abroad last fall for the semester, to a country where Goucher doesn't currently have a program. I needed to rearrange my course schedule once I got there, and I was able to do it entirely by email with my Goucher advisor and professors. Something that I did (and that OIS will probably tell you, too) was to save all of my email correspondence with my advisor and professors while I was abroad, just in case something got screwed up and I needed it as reference later.
As for housing when you come back to Goucher, they'll have you fill out a housing preference form before you leave--basically your top three choices for where you want to live once you come back. I requested a single on an all-female floor, and wound up in a double with a freshman on a co-ed floor. It worked out for us, but don't hold your breath that you'll necessarily wind up with what you've requested.
Anyway, sorry for the epic comment. If you have any more questions about studying abroad, feel free to ask!
But say I already know who I want to room with the following year. Would that person be able to sign me up? Or would I have to hope Goucher placed me with them?
It's not too, too difficult to go on a non-Goucher program--as long as Goucher doesn't offer a program in the place you'd like to study; or, if Goucher has a program there but it can't accommodate your major, then you can go on a non-Goucher program. It will depend on your major, any financial restraints, etc--if you have a Goucher scholarship, then it might be more financially feasible to go on a Goucher program, as you wouldn't be able to take that money with you to LMU (and, in London, you probably need as much money as you can get). You will only be able to take federal financial aid with you if you go through an American school that has a program with LMU. I would suggest Univ. of MD, College Park (I used to work there). Price-wise, it's one of the better London programs; they have a partnership with LMU, but your courses come back on a UMD transcript. They also have some of the best flats in London (no, they don't pay me anymore--I just think it's a good program). Hope this helps:-) Good luck!
See, Goucher does off a London program for Communications but it's much cheaper to go to London Met (Goucher has a partnership with Westminster) and I like the location of London Met better. I'm jus a little worried Goucher will tell me I have to go to Westminster or not at all.
