Me: My IT guy installed some free anti virus software on my computer and now it takes FOREVER to do anything. I think it is ridiculous that it takes 30 seconds to make font italicized and 30 more seconds to copy a formula from one cell to another.

Travis: I mean what is the point of an anti virus if it is worse than actually getting a virus.

Not to sound any nerdier than I am, but that's the problem with the free nees. They tend to make things way slower than the commercially available ones.

Check with your ISP to see if they offer a free security package. Most nowadays do. I know Comcast offers MCafee. Not sure if you have them, but if you do, I feel sorry for ya, but that's another story.

Ya, free usually = not awesome, see also bloat ware.

I'm not sure who my office uses, but it's probably not Comcast. I use Comcast at home because they have a monopoly on the market up here, but it has been good to me and I call Doreen if I have any problems or need my password reset.

welcome to my world! not necesarily the anti virus software, but in general, continued upgrades to the system that inevtiably slow everything down (and then of course cause the bosses to wonder why you'r enot getting anything done...)

of course, SOME of the problem is that they only upgrade one department of the paper, which means that our software is now incompatible with the older outdated software that the rest of the paper is sitll using, so we can't really send proofs, etc...

Oh efficiency it is a wonderful thing! They love to talk about it, but when it comes to making your work streamlined it seems like they unintentially put up crazy road blocks.

that's because, by and large, management is not required to actually know a damn thing about the jobs of the people they are managing, which is absolutly luducris. (spelling?)
