I have been feeling for some time like I want to learn how to use opaque mediums. I love watercolour, but I have always wanted to dabble in realism, and there are certainly other mediums that lend themselves to the minute subtly required ( Read more... )

It's great. I like how it does and doesn't look like watercolour. It dawned on me that if you're still into doing ornament on your beasts that an angler fish might be a fun one for you to draw. And very creepy too.

In my opinion, anyone who has an interest in art has the ability to create it. I think most of learning to draw is about being willing to put up with failure for a long time.

You can't go wrong with gouache. I always use gouache as if it were watercolour at first and then build and build until it's the consistency of single cream. It's perfect for realism or for washy sketch styles. I can't promote the medium enough

I like how this new medium gives you the power to make more aggressive colors but you still keep it feeling like your work.

Also I love grass skirts that look like the guy's hair.

Thanks. I am pleased with his torso. It has been a long time since I studied anatomy, so I think it turned out pretty well, considering.
