I think if we read between the lines we can see that there's a little something something going on between them. Neither end up with anyone, right? And they obviously were keeping in touch and became actual friends. I'm gonna have to go with an open ending on this one. After all, we weren't even told if Draco married Pansy, right? Or what happened to her. I read the book in 4 hours last night, and yes I read every page, and didn't go to sleep until 5 so I might be missing something, but the way it seemed to me, they definitely care about each other. That's the closure we have.
I'm gonna have to go with an open ending on this one. I totally didn't mean to imply that the ship was sunk, if that's how you saw it! You're completely right, there are a ton of different possibilities now. Who knows, maybe there's a new Divination teacher at Hogwarts named Luna Lovegood, perhaps?
We are going to have absolutely wonderful possibilities for this ship. :)
The way I see it, they're alive and not explicitly with anyone else, and that's good enough for me. I was really worried after the government stole my ship killing friend's toad a few days before. She had already apologized in advance in case one of them died. :p
I was expecting her epilogue to include all the characters and what would happen to them, so I was really glad that it was only the main ones! I'm glad we'll still be able to put Neville and Luna together, even if it didn't end up in the books =D
What sort of ticked me off was that there was no mention of Luna in the epilogue. We have this great sextet, so to speak, but no mention of Luna. Unless she's Malfoy's wife, which I highly doubt. lol!
I JUST finished DH and wow...at first I kept thinking 'wtf?' WHERE IS NEVILLE!? BUT he really, really, really shined through in this one!!! Omfg, I mean he's a hero!!!
Was anyone else as terrified as I was towards the end when Neville stepped up and confronted you-know-who!? I swear to god my heart was beating so fast I thought it would burst out of my chest!
Personally, I think it's wonderful that Neville REALLY came into his own in this book...but I was a teeensy bit disappointed that he wasn't in it all that much...because you know, how much he's in OoTP and but oh well...enough rambling...
J.K. still did him justice though! (and thank god for her not killing him! I would have had a nervous breakdown had she...) I just wish that at the end J.K. would have revealed more about Neville and then I was disappointed that there was no mention of Luna at all...=/
Neville was absolutely perfect. He was a true leader and hero. Think about it. Harry couldn't get anyone to come to his aid from the DA in HBP. Neville? Neville was a rebel and a leader and a hero and absolutely amazing!
When Harry told Neville that he had to kill the snake, I really thought that that was it for him. But he did it! And he was surrounded by admirers at the end!
I'm okay that Luna wasn't mentioned in the epilogue. As long as it wasn't mentioned that Professor Longbottom had a wife, we can assume whatever we want. :D
Neville and Luna both ROCKED in DH. But especially Neville. Kerry's Longbottom's Army seems eerily accurate now, doesn't it? Good for you, Kerry!
It was so great when Neville came walking back through that portrait, all battle-hardened and ready to lead a revolution. And then when he pulled the sword of Gryffindor from the sorting hat and cut off Nagini's head? One of my favorite moments from the book.
And did anyone else get all teary-eyed at the "friends" painting Luna made on her ceiling? So sweet.
But especially Neville. Kerry's Longbottom's Army seems eerily accurate now, doesn't it? Hee! Thanks. I wish I made Neville as awesome as a complete rebel. He was the man!
And then when he pulled the sword of Gryffindor from the sorting hat and cut off Nagini's head? I literally stood up and cheered when Neville told Voldemort, "I'll join you when Hell freezes over."
I totally got teary eyed over Luna and her room. That was so heartbreakingly sweet.
Dude, this book killed me in terms of Neville and Luna. Neville was so incredibly badass, I squeed every time he opened his mouth, I swear. And Luna was pretty much delightful, as always. The scene with her painting... both bizarre and adorable. Very Luna.
By the way (I'm kind of freaking over this right now, I must've posted it in around five places), did anyone see the Blue Peter thing? 'Cause Jo kinda said this:
Girl: During the course of the seven books you’ve written, have any of the characters developed in an unexpected way, that has surprised even you, the creator of them? Jo: Ummmmm... sometimes characters misbehave a little bit and want to do their own thing, uh, but I think I know them very very well, so they’ve never really taken me by surprise. Except… (I can say this because it hasn’t happened), but there was speculation at one point on the internet that Neville and Luna would end up together. [Laughs]. And I said, "No, that won’t happen." But you know what, while writing seven I started to feel a bit of a pull between
( ... )
No problem. I rather wish I hadn't given up drawing now; there needs to be "JKR attempts to reign in Neville and Luna's grand and t00by lurve" art, for reals. Possibly involving giant butterfly nets. They make everything better.
One thing: where in the name of arse was Trevor? ;_; The Government stole his toad and his girlfriend, clearly.

You too? I couldn't control my limbs, I had to get up and pace around a bit, going, "OMG THIS BOOK IS AWESOME."
I'm going to miss these characters rather too much, I fear :|
