and found the tree that most resembled what she thought she wanted, someone strong and true and kind, and although she’d found strong and true, kind was harder to tell in trees, and so she’d picked the one that seemed to have the most birds nesting in it, and settled for that.
This is a gorgeous gorgeous image. And this line, which is so bittersweetly funny, so Luna:
and so she elaborated, which she didn’t mind doing (although she’d like it occasionally if people kept up).

Such a lovely story with equally lovely characterization. I like that you left the identities of the lovers to the reader's imagination, also.
