And The Interwebs Went Boom!

I knew last night, as True Blood ended, that I should probably avoid all forums for the next week for the sake of my own sanity. But I also knew that was completely impossible ( Read more... )

I agree completely.

For me, that final scene was telegraphed COMPLETELY in the convo with Pam. He flat-out said he wouldn't give her to Russell. We know Eric well enough to know he means that. Then Pam said well Russell's going to get her anyway if Russell's not taken out ... so come up with a plan to use her to take out Russell so that she and (all that matters to Pam) Eric are both safe. And then he told Sookie he was thinking. He was coming up with a plan, and I do believe that you just nailed it.

ETA: I linked my friend to this cuz it was pure brilliance. :)

BTW: If you haven't, you should TOTALLY watch The Vampire Diaries. The first three episodes are pretty much exactly what you expect a teen vampire show on the CW to be, but it takes a sharp turn to "Oooh!" in ep four, a wild ride into "awesome!" in episode six and seven and then with the exception of some teen angst in eps 8-10, pretty much sets autopilot on "OMYGOD!THISISAMAZING!"

Thank you! Feel free to link anyone you want, I love the extra discussion!

Yeah - I loved the conversation with Pam, because she really pointed out that if he dies, without killing Russell, then Russell will get Sookie anyway, and all of Eric's protective good nature will be for nothing. So he has to come up with something better. I also adored how Pam played her dirtiest card and defended her use of it in the exact same sentence - I will say anything, just like you would have done with Godric. That Pam - always efficient.

I didn't get into the Vampire Diaries when it started. I think because the media seemed to put it forward as a teenage vampire show. You know, vamps for the innocent teens! Which is not what I'm looking for. But if it does get better, I should look into it.

Yes, I love how she used Godric. Hit below the belt, but it gets the job done. It's insanely long, but I think you'll really enjoy a friend's take on the episode.

I started TVD myself, then stopped, but a friend pushed me to watch it. So I slogged through the first 3 (which actually are MUCH better in rewatch - -I've rewatched season one three times, will do a fourth this week before the season premires), then ep 4 things started turning, and I like it said it just gets AMAZING. Not only is it the best show on tv, imo, it very well may be my favoritist show ever if they keep up this quality. I love it so much.

Besides you watch it long enough, you get to that scene that's in my icon, LOL!

That post was amazing! Thank you for linking to it. I feel like I should put it in memories, so then whenever a question arises re Eric's character, I just point and say, "This explains everything I could possibly think on the matter. Ever."

Though I am entirely guilty of romanticizing him. I can't help it. I love that he makes the hard choices, is willing to do the terrible things to protect his own - and then OWNS his behaviour. He doesn't stand around and make excuses for the choices he has made.

It's amazing what happened all over the web, for Christ Sakes, it wasn't going to be all that simple. Eric HAD to do something. Yes, it was a bit unorthodox but totally Eric. It's like all of them people ignored the awesome Pam scene (IDKY, I mean "Blah, blah, blah, vampire emergency blah." made her my sarcastic mom's hero), ignore what ERIC DID AND SAID IN THAT FUCKING SCENE. Also how he look like he had NO OTHER CHOICE in that scene ( ... )

I knew it, as soon as it ended on that image, I knew it. The internet was not going to be a fun place that night. Especially right away, when emotions were running high. There was another ep - I think the one with Eric's fantasy, that I was convinced the Eric/Sookie people would adore, and be all happy celebrations about. But then when I peeked around, they were angry that he didn't run to help her in the were bar instead ( ... )

I knew a bunch of people who loved that he had the fantasy and it shows how much he rather be there with her then stay where he was. He had things to deal with and he didn't want to deal with them. No matter what the Book!fandom is never going to be happy with the TV!fandom. I now get why only-seen-the-show fans get a little annoyed.

Eric being a rather terrible liar is something I am loving. He's a good manipulator, and used to being the powerful one in the room, but apparently not a liar while under emotional strain. A lot of people were coming down on Skarsgard for bad acting in Russell's mansion. And I'm like ( ... )

I absolutely freaking adored that fantasy - because I think it really hit on the heart of what it is that Eric sees in Sookie. Another friend, dreamylyf, had been saying to me days before that aired that she didn't get why Eric was so hot for her. And I said, well one, the Godric thing. But more than that, the moment on the roof opened up the possibility that Sookie could be someone who could know him. Truly know him. She saw him at his greatest moment of weakness, and she didn't use it against him, or throw it in his face. That moment was safe with her ( ... )

You're right Gowdy! They may not be following the books on this, but this is probably how Eric would have handled things if he was in this position. The best thing for him now is to have Sookie hating him... it will keep her safer and he will most likely die (of course he wont though).
It's like you said, Eric has no time to win Sookie over and she is the most stubborn human he knows. It's his way of protecting and using her to win this 3000 year old murderous vampire.
But I'm sure this is pure agony for him to do :(

I completely agree about the agony. I loved his expression as he left Jason's house - he's given up the idea of winning her. And then how closed down and brutal he became as he locked her up. "You were right." I am exactly the terrible monster you always believed me to be. Guh.

LOVED THIS ANALYSIS!

I agree completely!
I actually wanted to cry at some of your points.

This show is going to end up being the greek tragedy version of the SVM I think...
so sad : (

Thank you very much! Can I ask how on earth you found me? I am dead curious.

And you may be very, scary right about the tragedy version. I mean, look at what they just did to Sam. It's funny, everyone is so up in arms over the last thirty seconds, many are overlooking the rather SHOCKING change they just made to Sam's character.

And you know, I'm not entirely convinced the novels won't have their own tragic bent. I'm laying about fifty/fifty odds that Eric will have to become king, and that he and Sookie won't be able to be together as a result. Instead it may end with her able to finally live a peaceful existence in Bon Temps because the man ruling the vampires finally does have her best interests at heart and is protecting her from afar.

Have you seen this vid? It's really hitting the tragic feeling of Sunday's ep, and I can't look away.

I think the lady doth protest too much, is a phrase well applied to Sookie in this instance. "I prefer cancer!" "Monster!" and my personal favourite, "EWW!" If she really didn't care, she wouldn't feel the need to mouth off about it all the freaking time. It annoys her to no end that she is attracted to him, because it doesn't fit with her opinion of who she should be attracted to, or how she should behave ( ... )
