call me

Nov 17, 2004 10:01

I would like to explain a couple of things to my co-workers in HQ. First, while one can leave a voice mail message asking that a call be returned "at your earliest convenience," it is not appropriate to leave an outgoing voicemail message asking people to leave their information so that you can respond to them "at my earliest convenience." And ( Read more... )

pulling out my boobs would likely serve to distract Neil

One would certainly hope!

you have to debate whether it would be possible to pee silently

You're all about the phone manners, aren't you? :)

Yeah, there's not too much doubt in my mind. It's funny because he apparently never used to be much drawn to breasts, but mine are so mighty fine they turned him around. (Not that anyone really needs to know that.)

And it's not so much about phone manners (though I do have 'em - I also try to avoid munching while on the phone) as the fact that I'm really fastidious about bathroom stuff. There are just some things I personally don't care to share. Neil of course takes advantage of this by things like pretending that our cats have suddenly discovered how to open up the bathroom door. Heathen.

Yeah, I know I give the impression that they are brilliant Uber Cats.

Actually, though I wish he wouldn't do it, it is funny to hear him yelling, in this high-pitched jokey voice, "Oh, no, kitty! Don't go in the bathroom! Stay away, Mommy won't like that! Oh, no, you're too fast, you're going in…." Then the door opens and a poor cat gets shoved into the room.

I was telling Sue today that it's really a shame we don't have an 8-year old boy, as he would probably think Neil was the perfect dad. (Though I suppose all 8-year olds think they have the perfect dad.)

I saw the preview for that movie and I was confused: didn't I already see it? I just realized now that it's a new movie and not a re-release of Before Sunrise.

Yeah, it's the same characters 9 years later. If you loved Before Sunrise (as I did) you will surely like this as well. Though Ethan Hawke looks rather more battered, I'll admit.

Yeah my boyfriend (netflix) sent me both those movies the other day. I wanted to watch the first one again before I watched the second one since I hadn't seen it in so long. It was cool. But yeah, especially watching them back to back, Ethan is looking slightly worse for wear. A little gaunt. But yeah, those movies made me want to go to europe and meet a guy and wander around and talk all night and fall in lurve! I think I thought that would happen when I went to England but then I was my usual shy self so I didn't talk to anyone. Oh well! I still saw Stonehenge.

That's what I did as well. I saw the original way back when, in the movie theater, so I rented it a week or two ago. Not that you really need to, but it was worth another viewing anyway. I suppose Ethan Hawke's character is supposed to be a bit haggard. I had no idea how it would end and though I suppose I should have expected the ending I honestly didn't.

You don't need to go to Europe for that, though there is something about being out of your routine that can lead to original thought. (As she notes in the movie, and he said much the same thing in the first one.) That's why long car/train/bus/plane rides are great. (If you are w/ someone you like - I hate the overly chatty people I meet on planes sometimes.)

I was pretty disappointed by Stonehenge. It seemed so little - it could practically be smooched by dwarves, a la Spinal Tap. Maybe I'm just jaded.

Sometimes they can occur in dimly lit little coffee houses in the heart of downtowns. I do so miss those sorts of nights.

You will have them again, as will I. I do think, though, that it is harder to feel quite as engaged and enthusiastic as I get older. On the other hand, I also don't get as crazed and overwrought, so there is good and bad.

I'm sorry to hear about Kevin.

I think as we age, fewer things in life surprise and inspire us; which is why we feel less engaged and enthusiastic.

Don't be sorry, everything happens for a reason.

Well, I can still be inspired by things, but I am much less given to hyperbole. I mean, when you're young, you experience so many things for the first time and so it's hard to believe that you (or anyone else) could ever feel them again. But if we lived at that level of responsiveness we would probably burn out, and I would rather savor all the small things in life, honestly.

Those conversations are the best. Something about 3am and conversations reaching their peak. I'd ask for an explination but I prefer the mystery...

As for return calls in 24 hours, its a standard policy with a lot of places, but you never say this will be the case. If I said I would call somebody back in 24 hours on my voicemail, I'd have a lot of people wanting to speak with somebody other than me...even if the other person got back to them in the same time.

Obviously, they suck...

The thing that was weird to me wasn't the 24 hour thing but the fact that they specified "24 business hours." In truth, I expect they just meant one business day, but since there aren't 24 hours in a business day the phrase struck me as odd.

I wonder if being tired makes us more open to our subconscious and lowers our defenses. Certainly I had fun last night as I was simultaneously talking and enjoying those odd half-dream thoughts that come right before sleep.
