Well, I dont know how much you know about baseball, but when a player strikes out, and the ball isn't caught by the catcher, or it bounces before the catcher catches it, the batter has the right to run to first base. If he gets there before the catcher throws the ball over to first, the runner is safe.
The player, A.J. Pierzenski, struck out swinging. The ball was low, but never touched the ground. Josh Paul caught the ball, and started running to the dugout, as it was the third out of the bottom of the 9th inning in a 1-1 ballgame. The umpire ruled that the ball touched the ground, even though he signaled that the player was out. Pierzenski ran to first, and was called safe. The replays show that the ball never touched the ground. The next batter came up and hit a double to score the runner. Game over, "2"-1 White Sox.
