Really reaching for connections in this article, I think. The shows are different genres, each trying to accomplish different things and reach different audiences.
Also, IMO the writing, acting, and directing in Heroes totally blows Glee out of the water.
First of all, I have to agree with aceofhadeon's comment that they are really reaching for connections in this article. It just seems like such a stretch and there are way too many differences in these two shows in my opinion.
I also agree with greatbriton's comment about Glee making a spectacle of their guest stars. And that is one thing that annoys me about the show.
I agree with the comments but I also think the article was harsh on Glee. I thought the Britney and Rocky Horror episodes were fine, and Glee has been getting better as the season goes on. S2 is not as good as S1 by ANY means, but I don't think it's made quite the slump that Heroes did from S1 to S2. Regardless of whether one had a better season one, I think the real thing to look at is how far they fell. Glee was a decent show that became mediocre. Heroes was a fantastic show that became pretty bad (in season two at least - the other seasons I definitely like).
The article is almost like "GLEE WAS FANTASTIC AND NOW IT TOTALLY SUCKS" and I feel more along the lines of "No, Glee was pretty good and now it's...okay." And really, what DIFFERENCE does it make? They're totally different shows so, what does it even matter if you can reach for comparisons?
One of the reasons I liked the first season of Glee - mostly the first nine episodes - had emotional risks and punch. It was all about what different characters wanted but couldn't have, how their peers knocked them down and tried to make them feel like nothing, and how they found a sense of belonging with other outcasts and started to like being themselves when everyone else was telling them they should be anyone but. Now the episodes seem to be more about "O-ho! Look what we're doing! Aren't we fun and clever?" And then occasionally throwing in a serious episode
( ... )
We're in the second season of Glee, and that punch isn't there
THIS. They pretty much act like Quinn never had a baby, Puck never fathered a baby, and they barely give Mercedes screen time anymore. We used to feel sympathy for Will because he was so oblivious and his wife was using him but now he's become badtouch almost. The characters are funny but they don't seem as authentic anymore. Finn and Sue and maybe Kurt are about the only "main" characters who feel like they have a soul to me sometimes.
