Percy/Nico . 601 words . PG . I wish I could crawl inside your skin.
4:42 am.
Nico saw the glow of the clock from all the way across the room and sighed. He'd really meant to be home so much earlier - midnight at the latest, but one thing had led to another, and - yeah.
Percy was already asleep, of course. He would have probably been asleep by midnight anyway, but there was always a chance that he wouldn't be, and it was sometimes that chance that made the long summer hours worth it. That, and mornings.
Nico stripped out of his sweat-soaked shirt, sighing and rolling his shoulders as they were exposed to the gentle movement of air from the ceiling fan, on its lowest setting and still creaking now and then, in an uneven rhythm. He unbuckled his belt, let his pants pool right there on the floor. It wasn't important, he could deal with it later.
Their comforter was a deep, midnight blue - less because of the color and more because it was the softest thing this side of Olympus. Nico slid underneath and tried not to disturb it; he knew Percy slept like a log but the night itself seemed blanketed in peace and serenity and he didn't want to ruin the moment.
He found Percy's shoulder in the dark and shifted closer. Like this, with Percy on his side with his back wide open and exposed, Nico could fit himself seamlessly to his lumbar curve, and fold his legs into the vee of Percy's own. Here, he was both protector and protected, and everything was perfect.
"...Nico?" Percy's voice was thick and fuzzy, and Nico was surprised, but not unpleasantly so. Also, it was difficult to feel anything but warm when Percy sounded so completely befuddled.
"Yeah," he murmured, moist breath at the base of his neck. If it wasn't very-almost-five-in-the-morning, he would have made some sort of snide remark: Who else were you expecting? but it was too late, or too early, for their usual banter.
"Oh good," Percy said, a little less confused and more awake-sounding. "Thought it might have been an assassin. But it's you." He yawned, and tilted his head back until Nico could nuzzle his forehead against it, should he choose to. "Boring."
"Sorry to disappoint," Nico responded, but Percy's yawn set him off, and then there was nothing for it but to curl his arm around his lover's chest and try and get even closer. "...I wish I could crawl inside your skin."
Percy curled one of his own arms - much manlier and stronger than Nico's sticks - around Nico's, and wound their hands together, even as he fought another yawn. "Yeah?"
"Yeah. Just... curl up inside your ribcage and never leave."
Outside, the birds were starting to wake up, and the clock beside the bed ticked over to 5:00am. "What about my heart?"
It was Percy, and thus Nico knew what it meant - and lungs and things, probably, but Nico certainly wasn't in any mood to be literal. "Oh, I'd keep it safe." Safe, and warm, and mine.
Percy went quiet and still, and for a long minute, Nico thought he might've fallen asleep again.
"I'd like that," he whispered.
Nico clenched his hands a little tighter, buried his face in the hair at the back of Percy's neck. I love you, he thought, and it went without saying. I love you, I love you, I love you.
