Alice also wrote a brief synopsis hereSo on Friday, Jan. 9th, I got up in the morning, downed four raw eggs, collected all of my books/clothes and headed off to school on my bicycle. This was between 6-6:40 in the morning. About twenty minutes later I had passed Dorothea Dix Hospital, about 2 and a half miles from my apartment. Eventually, ( Read more... )

This is probably the only LJ entry over a paragraph long that I haven't just immediately skipped.

The part that makes me most sad is the hundreds of cars that drove by and didn't stop. I just don't understand that at all.

Good to hear it.

Also, the length of this entry (as you mentioned) is so unusual that you may have suffered some form of head trauma that no one found yet. I expected "yeah, I got hit by a car on my bike, I'm fine, I went to the hospital, eggs."

People are fucking morons. You'd think someone would have stopped.

Glad to hear you're okay, though.

People do this all the time, usually they do not see what has happened because their minds are elsewhere (Ok, I'm on my way to work, same route as every day, if I make these green lights then I might be able to stop for coffee? etc.)

Or there is also a psychological phenomenon whereby people will assume someone else will step up and help. It's similar to social loafing. The most famous example would be Kitty Genovese, a girl who was stabbed to death in front of her apartment complex. Not only did her attacker leave, but he came back again a short while later to finish the job. Due to all the screaming, people went to their windows to look out... it was something like 57 witnesses and not a single one of them stepped outside to help or even dialed 911.

Anyway, I hope Kyle heals quickly, and the two of you are welcome to my pillows and my movies and anything else you might need.
