Yay, a post from Anna!!! :-) How are you doing? It seems like forever since I've seen you.
Hey, we need to get together again. Do you like to paint? We're thinking of painting a room or two at our house and Elyssa said she'd like to help and I was just thinking perhaps you'd like to join us. I also think it would be fun to just get together to visit. Are you free at all next week in the afternoons?
I hope you're doing well! :-) It was good to hear from you! Have a fabulous day dear. :-)
I know! It has been awhile since I've seen you! We definitely need to get together. I'll consult the calendar and see if it will work out next week. I'll let you know as soon as I can!
Yeah, I need to post a real post one of these days! Not much to write about or maybe I just haven't felt like writing lately. Will try to get a better one written soon!
Yeah, you pretty much do. I'm looking forward to it :)
Oh, I do have a textiles preservation question for you- I don't know if you know anything about this sort of thing, but I bought a parasol from around the '60s or '70s, I believe (ebay, a few years ago). It's silk & lace, and the silk is starting to split. Where/how can I keep it to best preserve it? I wanted it so I could buy a frame later & cover it myself ;)
The only thing I could suggest is to get an archival box to store it in as well as acid free tissue paper. I'm not sure the best or cheapest place you can get these. You may even have a place in town where you could get something like that. Do a google search and see what you come up with. I have one medium/large box that I use to store all of my originals. My collection definitely is not super large by any means, so this works well for me. If you only have your parasol to store, you might get away with just wrapping it in the acid free tissue, especially since you plan to remove the silk cover eventually. I'm no expert on this, though! :)
Burt's bees = ♥ I love their eye shadows and lipbalm. Haven't tried their other makeup products yet, though. I like their orange flavored toothpaste too. :)
I am going to respond to yours and Silvana's emails, I promise! The network was down at home for about TEN days and it was nearly impossible to send things.
By the way, do you have some spare black silk taffeta? Some time ago (probably a long time!) you said you had a bunch and you could sell some of it to me. My mother's getting ready to recover some original parasols she found, and taffeta was used for two of them. (Mine is actually faille, I think!) Anyway, if you still have a lot, I'd love to take some off your hands. :D
Oh, that's fine about the emails! I know how it is, believe me. ;-)
About the black silk, I ended up using all the silk I had! Can you believe that? All 20 yards. Sorry about that! I'll let you know if I decide to get more like that again.
No worries! I know it was a long time ago, and I didn't remember how much you had.
My mother has another question. Several of the parasols have scalloped trim. One I think is plain half-inch scallops; the other is the larger scallops with mini scallops, that are done with punches. Have you done either? How, if so, and how bad was the raveling of the material?
