Fic: What I'm Waiting to Find (James Sirius/Teddy, NC-17)
I ended up writing three fics for hp-nextgen-fest (and that was me restraining myself), and since reveals went up today, I'll go ahead and start be claiming this one.
This was a fic I really wrote for myself, and seeing as how it isn't a crazy popular pairing, and it's over 25k words, I wasn't expecting many people to give this one a chance. So I just want to thank everybody who read this and left such lovely comments and even recced it. I can't tell you how much it meant to see my first longer fic have such a great reception. <3

This fic...I'm not even sure where to start. It's the longest thing I've ever written by a factor of three. It was my first attempt at a slower build, at something other than a PWP. It was my first time writing James/Teddy. It's also a story that's part of a 'Verse that has been in my head for close to two years. In fact, this 'Verse is one of the main reasons why I was motivated to start writing, because I really wanted to see if I could get this world living in my head into words.
So first, I really need to thank the most beautiful, wonderful, sparkling capitu. Without her awesome comments and support and cheerleading and prereading, I probably never would have finished this. I began sketching an outline at the end of last year, and she was wonderful when I begged her to take a look and tell me if this seemed like something that made sense. Since then, she has been more than amazing helping me bounce around ideas and offering detailed feedback and asking me about my progress so that I actually got this written. You are the best, darling!
I started really writing this seriously in April, and I got the bulk of it done in just a few weeks, before getting some feedback and setting it aside for awhile. I came back to it in July, finished it up, and was lucky enough to find two lovely betas indyonblue and gryffindorj to take a look at it. They both had such wonderful advice and comments and suggestions, and I'm really so very thankful that they offered their time to look this over. I ended up completely overhauling the prologue and epilogue, as well as massively editing and cutting several scenes. It was sort of a painful process, because, like I said, this story has been with me for awhile, but I think this fic is definitely the better for it. And some of the cut content may be recycled into the future fics in this world. :)
When I started thinking about what it would mean to bring the world I had built in my head to life on screen, I realized that there were really three stories that I wanted to tell, and that I didn't want to write them in order. The first fic I wrote was the middle one, the one about James and Teddy. For those of you who read, you'll have noticed the not-so-subtle hints of H/D. James and Teddy's story is finished (for the most part -- there will definitely be some oneshots in the future) but Harry and Draco's is definitely not.
So I'm planning two other fics in this verse. The first is probably a little self-indulgent, as I'm not sure anybody will be interested in reading. But it's a prequel of sorts, the story of Harry and Draco that's hinted at throughout this fic. Seeing as how people already know, generally, how it ends, I'm not sure what the reception will be. But it's a fic I really want to write, and one that I think will provide some good background. I've already got it outlined and a decent chunk written, and I think that may be my big project for the first half of next year.
And, of course, I also plan on writing a sequel where they get their shit together. :)
