I remember the phone call, waking up to the constant, and annoying, ringing of my cell phone. Normally, I would have ignored it, wait until after school to call whoever it was back. But for some reason, something in my gut told me to pick it up. I was surprised to hear Joyce's voice coming from the small speaker of the phone, but I was even more surprised to hear her frantic crys on the other end. "Mrs. Barakat?" I asked into the receiver, tossing my blankets off of me. Whatever was going on, I didn't like the sounds of it. "Mrs. Barakat, I can't hear you. What's wrong?"

I heard her cry, and I will admit I got worried. I mean, she was like a second mother to me, and she rarely got upset, unless it was something drastic. Her breathing lightend a bit, and I could tell she was trying her hardest to choke out whatever words were stuck at the tip of her tongue. "Alex, it's Jack. He's run away. I don't know where he is, Alex. Is he with you?"

"N-No, he's not. Di-did he mention anything to you? At all?" My hands began to tremble, my heart began to race, and I will admit to feeling like I was going to throw up.

"No, Alex. H-he said goodnight to me last night, and this morning he was gone." She took a few deep breaths before continuing. "There's a letter. Two actually. One's addressed to you, Alex... I-I just want my baby home." Joyce cried into the other end, her sobs getting thicker.

"I'll be over soon, Mrs. Barakat. Just, hang in there okay?" I sighed, removing the phone from my ear and hit the 'end' button. I was freaking out. I may not have showed it, but I was. How could Jack be so fucking stupid? I mean, he's only seventeen. He's too young to be out in this messed up world on his own.

I found whatever clean clothes I could, then drove my way over to Jack's house. As I sat in the driveway for a few minutes, I contemplated if I should pull out and go back home. I was scared of reading that letter. I had no fucking clue what was in it, and part of me wanted it to stay that way. But I knew if I wanted to know what happened to Jack, or why he ran away, I would have to read it. I took a few deep breaths, before taking the keys out of the ignition, and found myself walking up to the front door of the small, white house.

My knuckles tapped lightly on the wooden door, before I twisted the knob and walked inside. "Mrs. Barakat?" It was hard to see anything, the lights were off and I didn't know if I should turn them on or not. It took a few minutes, but I was soon pulled into a hug by the older woman.

"Oh, Alex. I don't know where he went. I'm so worried. I-I don't know what we did wrong." Joyce cried into my chest, my arms coiling themselves around her torso.

"It's gonna be okay, Mrs. Barakat. We-We'll find him, I promise." My lips pressed to her forehead, before releasing her from my grip. "I have to get to school, but uh, ca-can I see the letter?" My hands dug into the deep pockets of my skinny jeans, as I followed Jack's mother into the kitchen. She trembled as she picked up the note resting on the table, handing it over to me.

"Alex, please. If you have any idea where Jack may be, call me." Joyce's voice was shaky, as were her hands; I could only imagine how this was going for her, and as much as I wanted to stay and comfort her, I knew I wouldn't be able to see her break down.

"I will, I promise I will." My hands reached for the letter, and as the paper touched my hand, I felt like I had been punched in the stomach multiple times. I waited until I said my goodbyes to Jack's family to unfold the note, and when I did, I certainly didn't expect to be so..hurt.

My hands gripped the paper so tight, I was surprised I didn't rip it. My feelings we so discombobulated, I didn't know what to feel. I was confused, angry, hurt, terrified, lost. How could Jack expect me to go on with my life, knowing his own was at danger every second. I-I couldn't. I was going to find Jack, despite his wishes.

Present Day

"Alex, would you please pay attention?" Mr.Calum groaned, turning his attention from me back to the board. There were only a few minutes left of the class, and really, all I wanted to do was meet up with Rian and Zack, and go out looking for Jack. I continued to doodle in my notebook until the bell rang, packed up my things, and headed for the door. "Alex, can I talk to you for a minute?" Mr. Calum asked, stopping me before I could even make it out into the hallway.

Groaning in protest, I bit down on my lip, and turned to face the older man. "Yes?"

"Alex, I don't know what's going on lately, but you've been slacking. I mean, these past two days you haven't done your homework, you haven't been taking notes, what's going on?"

"I-I don't want to talk about it. Can I go now?"

"No, Alex. Tell me what's up." Mr. Calum's eyes locked on mine, and as much as I wanted to tell him what was going on with Jack and everything, I couldn't.

"I've just been busy. Look I'm really sorry, I'll try harder, just, can I leave?" I practically pleaded with the older man, because really, my attention was else where. All I cared about was getting Jack home safely, and I knew I couldn't do that if I were stuck here talking to ny teacher.

After recieving a nod, I walked out of the classroom and down the hallway to find Rian and Zack.
"There you are," Rian stated as we were in view of each other.

"Yeah..sorry, Mr.Calum wanted to talk to me. You ready?" I was starting to get nervous. Really nervous. Like really, fucking nervous. What if we did find Jack, but he refused to come back. What if-what if we didn't find him though? And he was lost, somewhere he didn't know his way around. What if some crackhead had somehow taken advantage of him...what if...what if he died? Oh god, no I can't think like this. I have to stay positive if I want to find Jack. But it was really fucking hard when the person you love the most is missing. I tried to shake all of the negative thoughts from my head, but they were still locked away deep inside my brain just incase.

Rian and Zack nodded their heads, and the three of us made our way to my car. "Alex, I don't know if this is such a good idea.." Zack confessed, running a hand through his short, brown hair. "Jack doesn't want us to find him. He said he'll come back, didn't he?"

"No, Zack. He didn't. I don't care if Jack doesn't want us to find him. We have to, okay? It would be like if you lost Rian, you know? Like a big slap in the face, or like a big chunk of your life was gone. I need to find him, Zack." I will admit, I was a bit pissed off, but I could understand where the younger boy was coming from. I turned around to face the other two, sighing heavily. "Look guys, I know you may not understand why I have to do this but..Jack is my home, alright? I'm so fucking worried about him, I can't sleep at night knowing he's out there on his own. I need him, to be sane, and to be myself again. Can you at least understand that?"

The two shared a few glances, before nodding in unison. "Alex, we'll find him, alright?" Rian spoke up again, resting a hand on my shoulder. "Lets go, it's gonna get dark soon."

We started off down town, driving slowly through the streets just so we could try to get a glimpse of everyone. It was hard, mostly because we were causing traffic, and drivers behind us were starting to get pissed off, and because everyone just happened to be walking too damn fast for me to actually get a good glimpse.
Rian suggested we stop the car and search by feet, and even though I protested at first, I knew it was the better idea. We parked along the side of the road, and after I fed the meter four dollars in quarters, we began walking.

We searched everywhere, the park, down the alley ways, in resturants and gas stations. Nothing. There was no sign of Jack. I began to worry, until I saw a figure that seemed so fimiliar to me. It had to be Jack, it just had to bed. The boy was walking in the same direction as Rian, Zack and I, his clothes looked dirty, and I could make out a few cuts and bruises along his arms. "Oh god.." I stopped, eyes locking on the back of the boy's head.

"What is it?" Zack asked, stopping along side me. I couldn't talk, because really, I didn't know what to say. Instead, I started running. I didn't know where I was running too, but I was running. After the boy, who may or may not have been Jack.

Author's Note:First, I wanted to say thank you for the comments on the first two parts. Second, I'm still doubting myself with whole first person thing, so I may end up switching to third. I don't know for sure, but for now, I'm sticking with it. Anyways, again, thank you for the comments (:
