So last night I was on the computer and I looked over and saw a tiny snake peeking in the patio window at me. IT WAS REALLY CUTE. I think it was a baby rat snake but I'm not sure.
When I say small, I mean small.
Garland was also surprised by its appearance.
How did it get in the window? By propping itself up on its tail, which you can see here. It's head is hidden by a reflection of the inside of the window so you can't see it from this angle.
Can anybody tell me what kind of snake this is? You can see its pattern here, kinda.
I woke Krypt up at midnight to come see this shit because HOW OFTEN DOES A SNAKE EYEBALL YOU THROUGH THE WINDOW??? Krypt was properly impressed and then went back to bed. He never got back to sleep though and he had to get up at 5 AM so it turned out to be a dick move on my part. STILL. THE SNAKE WAS STUPIDLY CUTE. Krypt thinks it was looking for bugs or baby geckos to eat. We leave the lights on outside all night so it attracts bugs, which attracts geckos, which apparently attracts snakes, now. I hope I see it again!
Anyway, there is thunder so I must go.
ETA: I think it's a
Texas rat snake and the article says they climb trees. I'm not at all surprised. It's small now, but if it survives it's gonna be a whopper:
The Texas Rat Snake is the largest snake found in Harris County, and can reach lengths of over six feet. (This isn't Harris County, however, so maybe we have bigger ones.)
