Translation Masters

Feb 05, 2012 20:04

Hi all

I'm asking on behalf of a friend who's not on LJ. She is planning to do a Master's in Translation, with a focus on English and Mandarin. Can anyone suggest where would be a good place to do it in? Thanks!

grad programmes, schools, advice on field of study

UMass Amherst has an MA program in Translation Studies. My mom has an MA in Chinese from the Asian Languages and Literatures Dept at UMass, so there are definitely people there who could advise you on a thesis.

This. It's part of the Comparative Literature program, though, so there will be literature requirements. She should be sure that's not a deterrent for her. Otherwise, it's a fantastic program with two big names in translation studies. (Full disclosure: I'm a PhD candidate there in Complit with translation studies being one of my specific interests.)

Thanks all for the helpful replies. My friend is looking for a course that leans towards literary translation, and that includes interpretation. cheers.
