That might be true, but the nature of sophisticated modern weaponry is to utterly decimate the enemy from afar, which in essence precludes the possibility of such a was as WWII ever taking place. Also, the pilots of those modern fighter jets may require most of a decade of training, but the result is that they virtually never lose a jet, let alone a pilot. Helicopters and cargo jets occasionally get taken these days, but they're slow. No artillery in the world is going to remove a modern stealth bomber from the skies. No missile in the world is going to down an SR-71 Blackbird (retired for 15 years, what secret successor must it have?). Despite the much lower cost of building a simple propeller plane, these things would be all but completely useless--they could probably be inexpensive motern artillery. Although, I suppose technically a C-130 Hercules is a propeller plane.
