Decided it was time to move this journal off of my own plights, and take a look at some of the bullshit going on nation-wide. The thing that moved me today

I suspect she couldn't have done much to stop him from enlisting. He was an adult, and if not he'd not have been allowed to sign up. Since he was an adult, it was his choice.
That's the real issue, probably. He did what he wanted, or what he felt he needed to do, and she's not accepting that he was able to choose for himself. Sucks, but sometime they DO grow up, if they live that long...
I don't think I'd say that the government had nothing to do with the war. But again - he signed up. He wasn't drafted.
I'm not going to say anything about whether I think that particular war in Iraq is a good one or not. If you know me, you probably already know my opinion on things. If that's what she wants to protest about, then it should be what she protests about - not that the government killed her son. Confusing issues is a sure way to make things more difficult, isn't it?
Definitely another issue. And I'm sure she had more power than waht you give her for deciding whether or not her son enlisted. Some people are born for the service, thats true, but very few could just look at their parents, telling them no and swearing them anything if they just didn't enlist. Most likely this is a family who supported his going to the military for the free college tuition and pay during 'safe times', and never expected to have to 'pay up' with active duty.
It almost totally refutes her arguement if I -am- wrong in that assumption. If he signed up in response to 9/11, for his country's honor and duty, then she would have known what that spelled for him (active duty in hostile territory).
