Grad. School

Jun 24, 2006 22:14

It's official. Starting in September, I will be a grad. school student.

The short version:
Where: Suffolk University
What: Master of Science in Adult and Organizational Learning
Why: It's a good career move and my company's paying for it.

I like my job. A lot. Going into work on Monday doesn't bother me. I decided a while ago that I wanted to be in corporate training for the long term. A Master of Something isn't required for that but it goes a LONG way towards making myself more marketable and moving my resume to the top of the pile. Plus, my company reimburses tuition and if I don't take advantage of it I'm just leaving money on the table.

Suffolk's program isn't anything prestigious but I don't need Harvard. (And let's face it, no prestigious program is going to accept a guy who double majored in Diablo and Tie Fighter. "No, I don't think YOU understand. I had all the spells maxed! Do you know how hard it is to get Bone Spirit to level 15?") I need something useful and after coming from a liberal arts background it was very refreshing to look through a course catalog and think 'I can use that. And that. That too. Hell, I can use all of this.' It's like a trade school.

I know that for many of you this is the first time you've heard of this. I used to announce all my plans and then feel silly when they didn't work. So now I just do them and talk about what works afterward. I'm all about the fait accompli.
