An Expensive Mistake

What's the most expensive item that you've ever boughten yourself?

I don't know, but I think this poster should invest in a dictionary.

Ugh! I actually hear that one (and "broughten") from people I know IRL. Horrible.

I corrected the poster on this one and was (rudely) informed by another poster that "boughten" is part of the vernacular in parts of the country. I looked it up and s/he's right. Sadly. I was brought up to think that being able to speak proper English was a sign of maturity and politeness. I guess those days are long gone. Ain't that a shame.

Oh, it is totally part of the vernacular where I live. I even catch close loved ones speaking that way and I have trouble masking my disgust. It is the vernacular of stupid people, so it is all the more frustrating when people I know and like persist in such willful ignorance.

I, too, was raised to speak properly. My main teacher in this was my father, who couldn't write worth a shit, but he knew how to fucking communicate well!

My main teacher was my mother. She was the first grammar nazi I knew. Saying ain't was as bad as swearing. My father only made it through the fifth grade, but he could speak proper English, too. He's the one who taught me to read when I was four.

I agree that it is disgusting when people know better, but insist on speaking like that. Grrr.
