I personally think this is more relevant to the whole godawful 'soulmate' concept.
1950: no internet, no mysterious french guitar player or some shit like that to woo you from your loved one. you fought, you worked through things. marriages lasted.
2000: internet, everyone's new and exciting and worth dumping your partner for until you meet them in person and find they have idiosyncrasies (politely) or worse. you fight over nothing. you don't worth through things. nothing lasts. nothing stays.
