A girl lied to me today. She expressed interest in befriending me, and only later I discovered that it was because I possessed the homework solutions and two midterms to one of her classes that I took last spring. It disappoints me as well when people try to use their connections to me in such ways.

It is very disheartening and unfortunately not something new. I'm sure you, as I, have gotten used to these things. The friend who only IM's when he has a homework problem. The girl who only wants your number to call the night before assignments are due because she hasn't started them yet. What's worse is I've had people who've tried to sabotage as well. Freshman year two "friends" of mine asked to borrow my term project as a reference and said, as a show of appreciation, that they would turn in the assignment for me as well. How unfortunate for them that skepticism abounds...

It's best when relationships aren't predicated upon such expectations. It's best when they are based upon something more substantive.
