So, Biden's kind of my hero right now. Palin's obviously been coached within an inch of becoming a rolodex of party lines {and has managed to say nothing terribly or laughably stupid, which: surprise!}, but Biden is being completely blunt in calling her out for her side-stepping. And he's not mincing words! I'm so excited! I mean, it's not a total ( Read more... )

PS: Biden and Obama said they were against gay marriage only because marriage is a term used for those of the Christian faith. technically, anyone 'married' not in the Christian/Catholic faith all have civil unions.

OH! That changes everything! I... was not nearly as well-researched as I thought I was about this. Thank you!

PS: we should talk sometime soon. Be online sometime this weekend?

it wasn't explicitly stated, seeing as 'marriage' is all anyone talks about, but the word in itself has been so taken out of context that most forget about the religion affiliation with it. it's cool. :D

PS: I...will try! I've been so busy lately with helping with the campaign and homework and trying to SLEEP amongst other crappy things, so I will definitely let you know! :D

PPS: It's my fall break next week! I should go visit you. *nudge*

See, I think sometimes the issue is oversimplified. On my side as well as the other one. Obama is my guy and I love him. I like that he has a balanced approach to it. It would be beyond ridiculous for him to tell the faiths what to do about gay unions. I like that he's sticking to the separation.
Also: YOU'RE WORKING FOR THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN? AWESOME.

And no worries! We've all been busy and things have been hectic. I hope you get some sleep and feel better! This mere month of classes has felt like a year.

Or I could visit you! But we should totally hang out during your break! It would be awesomes! Crystal and I would LOVE to see you again.

It's honestly my cynical belief that our political climate is so closed-minded that most politicians feel that they cannot possibly be elected if they support Gay Marriage. I've known for a while that Obama wasn't, and it saddens me, but the fact that Michelle is and has tried to talk him into it puts a smile on my face, even though it doesn't directly effect politics. I think Biden 'won' this debate(if you can win a political debate, really), and his 'maverick' speech was just plain amazing.

Also, Palin really needs a voice coach. She seems to have taken pronunciation lessons from our president.

I posted like twice and this is my third attempt, so I'm sorry! Bear with me.

I agree that it seems that supporting gay rights is unpopular amongst politicians. I don't like that either. As for Obama, though it seems his reasons are religiously motivated, it seems to me that he and Biden have taken an interesting approach: the law can't dictate to the religions about marriage, so they're working within the arm of the law to bring equal civil/spousal rights to civil unions.
Which seems fair to me. I'd like to have "marriage," of course, but for now, I think this is certainly progress.

I agree that Biden seemed to come out ahead. I totally agree. His maverick speech was awesome, not only on its own, but also because Palin KEPT USING THE MAVERICK THING. God.

RIGHT? She totally said "nucular."

^^;; Okay, I'm sorry, I guess I was basing my statement on old information. I remember an interview somewhere where Obama said that he was tolerant towards Homosexuality but did not believe in gay marriage for religious reasons, and so wished to leave it up to the states. That was last year, so it makes sense that something changed, and if they support federal law granting civil unions(we have them here, in Vermont with equal rights and everything, the difference being that it doesn't stay in effect in other states), that is extremely and utterly awesome, and reinforces my future vote ( ... )
