It's the luck of the draw.....

Nostrils quivering in anticipation? Ears back, alert for the starter's pistol? Gently pawing the ground?

Well, wait no longer, because the runners and riders have been announced, and the draw has taken place!

So then if those two horses of mine lose, I write someone a fic?

LOL. I knew I hadn't explained it properly.

If one of those horses finishes first, second, third, fourth or fifth, you get to pick someone from the list whose horse finished lower than fifth to write a fic for you.

You only have to write if your horses lose, and someone picks you.

I'm sure you had, but I've got a cold-addled brain...

I hope you feel better by Saturday. I want to be able to hear you cheering your horses home ;).

Provided that I don't forget their names :p.

They are nice and silly names, though!

Not as daft as mine: Numbersixvalverde. I bet it doesn't even get number six on race day, so it'll be number thirteen, Numbersixvalverde. I think they just try to make the names confusing on purpose!

I think there's clear photographic evidence there that I was actually about to draw the winner - and then an adjudicator ate it! I could almost demand a steward's enquiry... ;)

While Billyvodden has supposedly the best chance, I'm rather pleased I've also got the pretty grey horse in Kandjar D'allier. Might be housewives' choice, lol.

Unfortunately, the kittens are the stewards, and they'll probably just eat the complaint forms.

Surely Kandjar D'allier is too complicated a name for the housewives' choice? I fancy Simon for that, personally - easier to say in a conversation over the garden fence: 'ooh, I do like that Simon. He'll run well on Saturday'. Yes, in my mind, all housewives live in a Les Dawson sketch ;).

Clearly, this sweepstake is in the best of hands. I feel deeply confident knowing that the very latest scientific technologies are being employed.

Also kittens.

I was going to try and get the kittens to draw all the names, but after they'd ferreted the first couple out and batted them around the desk, they lost interest and wandered back to their breakfast.....

I too am impressed at the high level of security employed in the final draw. Now it's in my horse's (or Jockey's) hands....Run, Philson Run!

Oh, yes, the kittens were very serious about the whole draw. You can't see it in the photo, but they both had clipboards and made me fill out forms in triplicate. And then chewed them ;).

You did get two horses with very shoutable names. I hope you'll be cheering them on....

Lovely names indeed, if a tad on the conservative side. The idea of wearing a large, fancy hat and two thongs (if it's cold) whilst cheering on a Monkerhostin, Sonevafushi or Numbersixvalverde is rather more appealing to my less serious side. BTW, what do you suppose happened to numbers one through fivevalverde?

I think that's the kind of thing we don't think about... ;) And you should definitely wear the two thongs, even if it's not that nippy, just to fit in. We'll all be doing it, after all ;).
