I suggest noone fill out the ballots at all. The town authorities certainly know that we want to go home.

Signing something they give you gives them power over you. It is almost a magical kind of thinking, this idea that giving one's word binds you in a more than ethical sense. But it seems to be true here.

I gave those fools no power over me. If they think they can exercise any grasp that they may possibly have, I welcome them to it.

I don't understand. Are you telling me you didn't sign the ballot or you did and are boasting of your invulnerability?

The second option, of course. It is the right of a king to boast.

Such an attitude may lead you to danger.

I...I voted to stay here. Was that bad, nano desu?

...I don't know. If it is though, it's probably better than voting to go home. The town seems to take delight in twisting our wishes.

I will do my best to keep you safe.

I know I should have waited...but I just thought if I chose what they wanted...auauauuu.

Au...a-and you really don't have to trouble yourself, nano desu!

To placate them? Your intentions were right but your logic is wrong. When captured, it is best not to make shows of cooperation. Your enemy can use your seeming willingness against you.

We are housemates. I will do what I can to help you.

This sounds logical. I may very well not vote after all.

I would not be surprised if punishment befalls those who do not vote after all, however. We will have to wait and see.

Perhaps, but it would be inconsistent with their earlier actions. I intend to make any cooperation they get from me reluctant. That is a better strategy when captured.

I thought that was only to do with names and stuff like that.

Really? I haven't read a lot of fairy tales.

Neither have I really, that's just what I'm remembering. I might be wrong.
