I know the feeling. I get a call 15 minutes before quiting time. Poor network response from a remote application server. Where is the server? Off my network. My network ends at a firewall connected to a switch that no one owns which is connected to a router the other company that hosts the application server owns. Guess who owns the circuit? That's right the other company. I don't have access to the other company's equiptment.
It takes me 30 minutes to convince the office having the problem to let the other company call out the circuit to the provider because we can't think of anything else to do because everything else checks out. I didn't get home until around 7 PM.
I get a call from the other company, the circuit provider wants to get onsite at the office but the office rep is not answering his phone. There is phone equiptment there that needs to be replaced.
I hate hand holding. But it makes them feel better but I can't do a damn thing.
